I've got nothing against the kid, and I still think he will turn out fine, but we can't continue to play him, simply because he was a highly touted recruit! That's one of the few things that Cal does that pisses me off. It's like he's afraid to hurt the Ky brand by benching a top recruit. The fact is, Skal's just not ready for big time college ball yet! That's okay, I'm not mad, and I'm confident he will develop. That's just where the kid is at right now. Treat him appropriately!!!!

Totally agree! I kinda feel bad for him because he obviously had no idea what he was getting into by playing at UK but costing games to get him PT is bullisht.

Start Poy & Lee and have Tai back them up and let Skal fight Hump for the 4th spot. And I don't even think Tai is that good yet but he wouldn't be worse than Skal. You almost have to try to put up numbers as bad as Skal has been putting up.

Skal has basically been playing church league competition for the last 2 yrs prior to enrolling at UK. He is so far behind, lacks toughness and a feel for the game. Can we afford to let him 'play through it'? Is he just way overhyped based on raw ability and summer camps where defense and toughness don't matter?

I can envision slow improvement but just can't imagine this kid playing in 'the league' 6-7 months from now. Hell, I'm not sure he needs to be playing much in the SEC right now!

Skal deserves no playing time. He's not gonna help this year. Cal needs to move on. Find one of the other bigs that wants to play

Of course and Humphries needs to play.

But the Aussie is not projected to be a lottery pick so therefore Skal will continue to see the floor and stink it up.

If Skal isn't going to be placed in a position to be successful, he should be allowed to transfer to a school that will use an offensive strategy that works best for his skill set.

I truly believe if he played at Kansas, UNC, or Memphis he'd come back next season.

He can play however and still leave.

How did Skal get rated so high in the first place? People saying his competition was church league level. Dose not compute.

I think he can only afford to give him limited opportunities now. It was obvious in the second half when the other guys changed gears, Skal was out of position on virtually every possession on both ends. Weak side boards killed us in the 2nd half. I think he will continue to try to build it but it may be a lost cause.

..You get down 16 to a good team, and it hard to win, Ky in the first half like ever game this yr keep shooting and missing jump shot, even when someone is trying to post up they will not pass the ball inside, they would rather drive and throw up circus shots..

What is his skill set? I keep hearing about his "skill set." All I know is he has 3 offensive rebounds in the last SIX games, including four games where he didn't have any. He has a total of 14 rebounds in that time. He has barely averaged TWO rebounds a game over that time for a 7-footer. I'm sorry, you can't pay ANYWHERE with those numbers, regardless of "skill set."

He was the product of poor competition and hype out of a few practices. He is WAY behind where someone like Lee was when he entered college, and miles and miles behind WCS. Both of those guys were/are three-year players.

I hate to say it buy ^^this is right on the money. I truly believe it's make or break time for the season after today. A week to prepare for ul and tai in the house. Is Cal going to be his normal stubborn self by playing the "can't miss kid" through hell or high water or adjust to a totally new game plan. Start Humpries - or (gulp) even Wills for Gods sake. Anything would be better than skal right now.
Now was Skal the sole reason we got smoked in the first half? No. But our guards have been so instructed, it seems, to try and get Skal involved, It's disrupted any semblance of having any offense continually getting us off to bad starts.

You are right Humpries is much stronger, and has a good shot, why Cal is not playing him more hard to understand..

100 % agreed. He's not bringing anything to this team right now. Is it his fault, nope...but this just can't be about him. He does not have the body to compete down low. If you're a 7 footer and not hitting shots or grabbing boards then we can't have you on the floor. I fear Cal will try to force him into a player he isn't, and that will just hurt us. I know the thing about UK is we can get you to the pros, and it won't look good to have the hot #2 prospect fall in the draft but we got other players to look after. Were about to be going into Janurary and conference play, and Skal just isn't even close to being there. And the flaws he has are flaws I don't see being fixed in a few months.
