I did some math....

If you take 50 two-pointers and make 50%, which is pretty standard, you score 50 points

If you take 50 3-pointers and only make 34%, you score 51 points

Pretty sure Pope is banking on the team averaging at least 34% from 3 and will be taking quite a bit more than Cal's teams did

Nothing earth shattering but just wanted to check the numbers

Not sure how it factors into the analytics, but in your comparison, there would be 25 rebounds on 2-pointers, verses 33 on 3-pointers. Plus, it would seem a team that shoots more 2-point shots would draw more free-throws than a 3-point shooting team. Like I said, there are deep analytics that the programs have to design their schemes and offensive approaches.

GO CATS !!!

From what I gathered BYU didn't shoot a lot of FTs per 2 pt attempt compared to most.

I assume the point is getting easy buckets so if a defender is close enough to make contact they more often make that extra pass to the open guy.

I'm mixed on it. I think getting the opposing team in foul trouble is a good tactic at times. Especially if they are thin and don't shoot them well. Mainly applies to bigs. Can really help against a team that has size and a good rim protector. Give him three fouls and he gets tentative and less aggressive. If he doesn't then he's out of the game late. Win/win.

Omoruyi is a perfect case for that.

I would be interested to see the analytics on it though.

For general interest, reference and discussion, here are some selected statistics for the TOP TWENTY-FIVE (25) teams, ranked by number of 3-point attempts per game last season.
