Since 1998

*Didn't watch a second of the Final Four as I knew the result as soon as I saw the officiating of the first half of our Elite 8 game*

Since our last title, we've watched Louisville, Duke, UConn and UNC win it all.

Since 1998, the titles have went like this

UConn- 99, 04, 11, 14
Duke-01,10,15
UNC- 05, 09, 17
Kansas- 08
Florida- 06, 07
Maryland- 02
Nova- 16
Lville- 13
Cuse- 03
Kentucky- 12

Very little reason to not expect the worst most of the time. Whether it's BS officiating, the NCAA not doing its job, certain teams being given easy brackets, injuries, etc very rarely does good things happen.

We've seen Duke and UNC win nine titles since 1992 where as half of our titles are from the 40s and 50s. Disappointing to say the least.

You could make the argument that UCONN has been the best team since 1998 based on that. As we measure success by titles it would be hard to argue against that.

UConn and Florida are the only things on there that kind of stand out. Jim Calhoun and Calipari have a lot in common as coaches, but for whatever reason Calhoun has had better success in the tournament.

Duke and UNC have had two of the best coaches in the history of the game over that period ... they're gonna win some titles.

Since the 90s we've won 3, with position to win 4-6 more.

We've seen all of their success and titles in a less than 20 years. They matched Duke by 2014 (before Duke won it again) and surpassed Kansas and Louisville. They won four titles in 15 years. Pretty impressive.

I'd rather flame out in the first weekend some years and have more titles. How many of us wouldn't take the Duke trade of having an extra title but losing in the first or second round three of the last five years?

Ugh...this is depressing to look at.

Since 96' Kentucky has 3 titles and that equals the best of the list above. We have been as good as anyone in that time span. Expecting a title every year is absurd.

and have been runner-up twice in that span as well. 5 title games (with 3 championships) in 22 years is pretty darn impressive, not to mention a few other final fours too.

Why start at after 98? You're excluding 2 titles that we won. Numbers can be skewed to fit any narrative you want! Since the 90s, we've been as good as any team in college basketball!

It might be rational to move past the Pitino era, because there seemed to be less hatred for us then. The '98 title is often viewed as an extension of that era (whether justified or not).

98, though, makes it 20 years.

If you start right AFTER we won 2 titles in 3 years with a runner up in between, our record doesn't look so good. In unrelated news, I'm doing a perfect job of sticking to my diet if you don't count the three jelly donuts I had for breakfast.

Rational to move past an era when we were super successful and dominating the sport...um, no!

0 since 2012!!! OMG!!!

Yeah, and Duke, UL*, UConn, Villanova and UNCheat*** have all got one since then. (Damn, that really does look like crap, doesn't it, lol?)

Edit: It could be worse...at least we're not UCLA or IU(sedtobe) when it comes to 'Blue Bloods' and our last championship! ;)

If we don't win in 2018 it will be one title in 20 years. We have had periods in our history where Championships came in groups. 48,49 and 51 and 96, 98. With OAD that will be hard to do. But right now I just want another one because it would be a pipe dream to have a couple together. I doubt we ever have another back to back, until NBA draft rules are changed and I can't see that happening.

No one is discussing all-time. I chose this since it was right after our dominant period which was 20 years ago. It's to show how we have compared in titles vs everyone else post 90s.

Three teams have won over half of the titles since then.

Um, the OP can pick whatever time period he chooses.

If the logic is to say, "since that one great run ended, when we were clearly on top of college basketball, here's the breakdown of titles" then that is a perfectly rational discussion.

I'm sure if you want to start a thread on our success in the 1990s, you will get a lot of traction.

It kind of makes me sick that Roy Williams has won 3 titles, in 14 seasons, at UNC. UK went pretty cold after that 98 championship until we hired Cal. No championships, not even a final four game. Our brand took a hit during that time, Cal was pretty much one of the only coaches who could prop us back up.

My hope is Cal sticks around another 8-10 years, and the old guard of K, Williams, Pitino, etc all retire in a few years.

Is it always someone else to blame when we do not succeed. it is simply hard to win the big dance.

Some of you count differently than the majority.
We have 3 since 1990. Connecticut has 4, UNC 4, Duke 5. Those teams have outperformed us since 1990.
