I bring this here because I lurk here from time to time and you guys are pretty good at breaking down a player. What do you folks think about his game? As far as bigs go, especially in our conference, does the kid have a legitimate pro future? I'd like to think so as I like his ability a lot. What say you?

In the NBA for certain players it is all about the team they land on. There are certain players in the league that I would never would of thought in a million years that they would have a pro career

Better pro future than his high school teammate Briscoe. I like the way Silva has progressed at USC.

I know y'all have a lot going on with the Briscoe news, but yeah, I'm with you on his progression. The kid has only played organized basketball for a handful of years. Lol. He needs to bulk up and develop a jumper from 12-15.

I think these are two things that pro teams are confident that he would be able to develop.

The way I see it..

The Strengths:
- Motor (you can't teach heart. Some have it, some don't. He does)

-Athleticism (the guy is very mobile, very agile, looks as if he has a quick second jump, and doesn't need much to gather before he makes a jump, which is pretty important)

- Upside (he's developing very well. His physical tools are going to force him into a role as a 4 if he wants to go to the NBA, but he's showing that he's developed touch on his jumper quite a bit over the past year, and he's a ++ defender)

- Defensive Awareness (As I said, he looks like a ++ defender that will have the ability to defend 4's inside and out. Big skill to have. Rebounding and defense in the NBA can get you a role on a team)

The Weaknesses:

- Height (his height will have him stuck at a 4. He's closer to offensive skill as a 5, but he has the body of a 4, which sets him into the tweener category until he really develops as a shooter, or possibly a ball handler/mid-range guy)

- Offensive awareness (A lot of this can be attributed to being relatively new to basketball, but he still has a way to go. Good news is, the times I watched him later on in SCar's offensive system looked much better than they did earlier on, so he at least shows he can comprehend more advanced offenses)

- Skill Level (He's a raw player, but as mentioned, he's developing well. Not skilled enough at the moment, but I could see it as early as next season if he continues to develop how he is).

My take? I think he'll get to the NBA. The guy is essentially Cheick Diallo with more college production. Teams love players that rebound, defend, run the floor, and can make mid-range jumpers if they're all in one package. I think for him to ever want to be a starter in the NBA, he'll need a 3 point shot to make up for some other things, but I think he has an NBA future.

He more than held his own against the best college bigs and is very athletic. He should have a great chance at it.

I think that is a more than fair assessment.

Silva will definitely play pro just not sure it'll be NBA. He really balled out in March.
Remains to be seen. He seems to have the drive to better himself and his game. This guy fouled out of 10 games this season but all of them were prior to the post season. His play almost makes you forget. Lol.

Thornwell will find his niche as he is just a winner. You can't coach that. Dozier is inconsistent albeit his tourney numbers were decent. Jesus I hope he comes back.
I doubt he comes back and I think both he and thornwell will be good pros . I think in another 1-2 years Silva will be a late 1st or early 2nd round pick.

I think Silva certainly can. Reminds me of Renaldo Balkman who made played parts of 7 seasons with the Knicks & Nuggets. Still playing internationally. Balkman could hit the occasional 3. It would benefit Silva to do so with the way the NBA has evolved as most big men have developed a perimeter shot these days.

I really like his game. Good FT shooter. Good rebounder. Nice touch around the rim. If he can learn to avoid foolish fouls, I definitely think he will be very good.
