SI on UK 3-Point Shooting Woes

Well, it is disconcerting when we have so many good 3 pt shooters on this years team. Lot of theories to what the problem is, but it's up to Cal to find the real one. Cal is a great coach, but offense scheming is a weak point.

When the offense is operating better with better spacing, the 3 point shooting will improve to an acceptable level.
We all know these guys are better shooters than what they have showed. I really think the answer to the woes is that these guys are adjusting the intense defensive schemes that Cal has them run along with the "toughening up" stuff has these guys a little out of their comfort zones.

I think once they grasp everything and become more and comfy out there with how Cal wants them to play- the shooting will increase dramatically. Like I said- these guys are too good for these current percentages.

I'm not really freaking out about it, just yet. Were still putting up a good number of points per game. Cal doesn't want this team to fall in love with the 3, and is really pushing them to drive. I'm hoping that will evolve to guys driving the lane and passing out to an open player on the perimeter. We just need to be able to hit a few to keep the defense honest.

I've been saying all year that we shouldn't worry about the shooting. That it would improve. That Cal was just preaching the drive so much that things would eventually even out. But now we've gotten a pretty good sample. I think it's going to be a weakness. And that really makes no sense with the shooters we have.

"the shooters we have" ?????

Tyler was good last year and we assume he'll get back to that .. however he has a lot more on his plate this year and is that having an effect?

Murray appears to be more of a scorer than a shooter but he's certainly adequate

Willis when he plays but the pressure to succeed or be back on the bench may be an issue

Did I miss anyone?

Once again, and it goes back through the Tubby years .. UK rarely has even one pure shooter on the roster. (Have we ever had two?)

The three point streak where we are second place behind unlv (I might be mistaken)is important .I want uk to be tops in all the ncaa records. I am conflicted do we allow this (the record) affect how we play? I think cal would say not important first we need to win. I always celebrate when we hit that first three of the game but I also want to win.

I think we have 2 good outside shooters on this team . By the end of the season I think these 2 will be shooting at a good not great percentage. Everyone else is below average . And yeah I'm not counting Mulder cause honestly I can't even tell that he's on the team . One thing Cal has proven beyond a doubt in his 8 years here , shooting ability is one of his last priorities when it comes to playing time .

As another poster said, I think if given the opportunity, Willis can show that he's an above average shooter. Also not convinced that Matthews is as poor of a shooter as he's told to be. I'd like him to take more threes when he's open, and feel he can at least be a serviceable shooter.
