It's an unfair advantage. You're correct either we all should get to have them or nobody.
it wasn't for nearly 40 years. They were banned in 1974. For some odd reason that ban was somewhat lifted in 2010. And we've been stuck with Christopher Walken's favorite musical instrument ever since.
Just grandfathered in for the sake of tradition. But I agree they should stop it or only allow before the play clock starts and kick anyone out not following the rule but that would be a nightmare to enforce so just ditch it.
By rule in the SEC they are supposed to be rung only during timeouts, pregame, halftime, and after scores.
They should be illegal, they are a unfair home field advantage.

It's a bad rule but no need to be ageist, racist, and belittling towards people with weight issues.
