A little late to the party DT...this isn't the first rodeo for this happening with Henderson
If you read the story you'll see that.A little late to the party DT...this isn't the first rodeo for this happening with Henderson
I did and I think it is only further proof that after the season, unless the team makes a dramatic turn around that a coaching change desperately needs to be made and MB and the powers that be need to have construction of the new stadium up and going to be able to attract the best candidate possibleIf you read the story you'll see that.
LOL slugger.....those who followed and knew baseball saw this coming years ago. Welcome aboard Mr. Terry. Better late than never.A little late to the party DT...this isn't the first rodeo for this happening with Henderson
I agree on all fronts.I did and I think it is only further proof that after the season, unless the team makes a dramatic turn around that a coaching change desperately needs to be made and MB and the powers that be need to have construction of the new stadium up and going to be able to attract the best candidate possible
BUT, with the wording MB spins around the funding I doubt that either will be done anytime soon and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see GH get a vote of confidence and praise along with an extension on his contract.I agree on all fronts.
I think it's wishful thinking it would happen after this season. If the team doesn't make the tournament and also struggle next season then I could see a change being made.Derek, is it your sense being around the program that Mitch is willing to fire GH? Or is this just wishful fan thinking on our part?
I think the fans should turn up the heat BIG TIME if we don't make the NCAA tournament this season, NO excuses after the great start to SEC play !I think it's wishful thinking it would happen after this season. Amen brother...... Preach on !I think the fans should turn up the heat BIG TIME if we don't make the NCAA tournament this season, NO excuses after the great start to SEC play !

Last year of a contract with no extension=0 recruiting powerWe are at a spot right now where something has to happen this offseason. He either needs to get an extension (please no!) or he needs to see the writing on the wall and try to move on. It doesn't make sense for him to go into the last year of his contract with no plan and hoping to get an extension. It makes a lot more sense for him to play out this year and then shop himself around for new jobs. Then, Barnhart doesn't technically have to fire him. He can kind of push him out the door without actually firing him. This, IMO, would be the best way for this to go and could be how it happens. Basically, Barnhart and Henderson have their annual meeting for performance review and at that meeting it should be clear that Henderson isn't going to get an extension after this year's terrible performance. Then, Henderson has to be dense as hell not to understand that he's going to have to have a damn good year next year to be retained and that it might be better to have his agent shop him around for a new job rather than getting outright fired.
You wait a year, Andy Green may get fired from SD and be ready to take over.
Ordinarily you would be right, but Andy has a lot of love for the state and UK. He would make a great living, $600-700,000/year, more if highly successful, not as much as MLB but being happy means a great deal ie. Rick Eckstein went from the Angels to UK.I don't follow college baseball nearly as close as MLB, but believe it is wishful thinking that any former big league manager is going to take the UK job, especially one as young as Green who could get another job in some other big league system.
If he flops he doesn't have the name recognition as other guys to survive.I don't follow college baseball nearly as close as MLB, but believe it is wishful thinking that any former big league manager is going to take the UK job, especially one as young as Green who could get another job in some other big league system.

Minor sports at UK get very little attention.I think it's wishful thinking it would happen after this season. If the team doesn't make the tournament and also struggle next season then I could see a change being made.

As much as I hate UL & Jurich I will give him credit for getting their minor sports into
a very competitive advantage
We have some success despite the actions pf Mitch. Girls softball comes to mind.
We make bad hires, because of money?, or just don't care for the minor sports.
IMO Mitch is an average AD at best. To political correct & non inspiring.
Umm we just built brand new soccer, softball, and track and field stadiums. Both men's and women's tennis made the NCAA tournament. Volleyball was in the top 20 for the entire season. Men's soccer won their conference. Women's soccer made the NCAA tournament and has a top 10 class coming in. Women's track is #1 in the nation. Do some research before you write idiotic posts like that.Minor sports at UK get very little attention.

Womens track has arrived, volleyball has been good for a few years, & softball is outstanding.Umm we just built brand new soccer, softball, and track and field stadiums. We have sustained a competitive position in several sports, but you choose to ignore it. Just a fact.Womens track has arrived, volleyball has been good for a few years, & softball is outstanding.
Have sustained success in WB but it is now a train wreck.
Had some success with mens tennis a few years back with coach Embry & the same with
baseball under coach Choen.
A few good years is really not progress. We have never been able to sustain a competitive
position in these sports over a period of time & maybe that's turning. I hope so.
Not an idiotic post just fact. A few good teams now & then is not progress.
Mens' tennis just competed in the NCAA tourney for the 26th time, Women also made the NCAA's. Volleyball has made the tourney several consecutive times. WB also has, but is in the midst of controversy. Rifle won the NC in 2010. Men's golf is usually pretty good, Women's Track and Field was NCAA runner up last year, as is ranked # 1.Womens track has arrived, volleyball has been good for a few years, & softball is outstanding.

.......and I'd trade it all for a top-tier football program. Thanks Mitch
Yeah Mitch has been by far the most diverse AD in UK history. He has built up the ignored Olympic sports BIG time. He has hired 1 good football coach, although most didn't think so at the time, but Rich Brooks got us interested, and playing in multiple Bowl games. The difference in CRB and his successors, is a lot of previous HC experience. Mitches' hires of Cohen, Brooks, Lawson, Floreal, Mitchell, Calipari etc. have been solid and spectacular !I have to say, this argument is kind of annoying. For one moment in our football history we had a top-tier football program. Even during that time basketball was king. It is not the fault of Barnhart that this has continued. He has done more than many past ADs to promote football. Might not be enough, but he's still actually seemed to give two shits about the program. In fact, he's the only AD that I know of that has seemed to care about more than just basketball. Unfortunately, basketball is all that most of our fans care about, and so it is still the tail that wags the dog. Can't blame Mitch for a culture that has been in place for decades.
