Should the tournament expand?

Tournament should go back to 32 imo. But it’s not about competition. It’s about money. Need those meaningless one off cinderella teams. To capitalize money off of. Basketball is a weird game. Bad teams beat good teams all the time. And in a one game series tournament. That happens often.

Im 100 percent with you. Wish we would go back to 32 team tourney.

No. It works like it is. Don’t break it.

If they did expand it, I would eliminate the first 4, and give teams 33-64 one home game each against teams 65-96. This would reduce the odds of severely watering down the field, imo.

But I would rather they leave it alone.

No it is good the way it is. The only change should be one jon Rothstein has been preaching for a while. The play in games in Dayton should be the last 8 at large teams instead of the teams that won their conference. So the 11 and 12 seeds should be playing in Dayton instead of the 16 seeds

No, it should go back to 64. The bracket is sacred! Don’t screw it up. College basketball is the most inclusive sport in the country. Every single team is in a conference and has an opportunity to win the national championship via their conference tournament then to the NCAA tournament. No other sport has anything close to providing that type of opportunity for teams that had terrible seasons.

Answer I've given for years: We don't need more 18-13 power conference teams. If you expand the tournament, give all regular season conference champs an auto bid along with conference tournament champs.
Yes sir I agree with you 100%. I would rather see a really good team that ran through their conference but had 1 bad game in there conference tournament and lost get a chance in the Big Dance than an 18-13 Big 10 team that had a losing record in their conference and only has wins over other sucky teams and cupcakes.

I think expansion would hurt the casuals that follow it. Right now the bracket fits nicely on one page. You expand to 96 that's not going to be the case anymore and it'll kill bracket pools and other "fun" things people do to pass the time.

To me, if your resume isn't good enough to get in after 5 months, you didn't do enough to help yourself. I don't need to see more power conference teams that went 16-14 or 17-13 in the field.

No, elite 8 on, best out of 3.
No way. It would determine a true champion more often, but it would take away from what makes the tournament so fun. The best part is the one and done nature and seeing teams that have no business making the Final Four make a crazy run.

What do your sources say?

Mine say no, it’s a great event as is. Plenty of teams (almost too many) already make it in. Making the tournament should be a reward for a successful season.

No we already have too many teams.
Once you get so far down the list of teams they don't have a realistic chance of going to the Elite 8 or Final Four.
If it were to expand, and I’m not a fan of it, it should not allow more 16 seed type teams in, rather the on the bubble teams. Several bubble type teams in the past have certainly got hot in the tournament and made a run.

No way, it’s already very difficult to win 6 games in a row. I don’t see the upside for a bigger tournament aside from more TV revenue. If they expand it, they will still complain about bubble teams.

This is all just a money grab. They’re already talking about expanding college football to 14 teams and we haven’t even had 1 season of 12 team playoffs.

32 teams and final four on is best out of 3. It should be hard to get in the tournament. You should have to earn it all year long instead sucking all year and then winning the conference tournament with a losing record

Ask yourself…after expanding the field would you tune in to watch a matchup of Fordham vs UC Santa Barbara?

There’s your answer.

No. Lowest seed to win the NCAAT is #8 in 1985. I’d rather actually to go back to a 32 team draw. I know that’s never going to happen but go back to 64. That expansion to 68 was silly.
Just a thought. If you went to 128 but gave the higher seeds home games in the first two rounds you would probably end up with a better Final 32.

I agree with Big Foot 275. Too many teams already and expanding it would be like all the bowl games we have in football where you can win just half your games and get in. Too watered down to me and not really rewarding teams for having really good years, just let teams with so so records be included. No thanks.

Bowl games are exhibitions.

The real teams play in the playoff. And if course they are gonna expand it to 14 and then 16 I'm sure.
