Should it be Ulis??

I have watched a lot of players in my lifetime, but I have never seen a better point guard, as only a Sophmore then Tyler Ulis. He is truly a coach on the floor. It is fun to watch him get the other players in the right place to run a play, and then question them during a timeout if their not where they should be, or if they do something they shouldn't.
Ulis plays with as much, or more heart then most players. He doesn't back down from anyone, regardless of their size. No one has ever told him he's not the biggest player on the court, and he definitely thinks he's the toughest.
I think he should be in the running for "Player of the year." I don't believe any player is more valuable to his team then Ulis is to UK. I would like some other opinions.

There is no doubt he should be in contention for player of the year at this point. His last 4 games he's had 36 assists and 4 turnovers. #1 draft picks don't put up those numbers. Really good players against Popcorn U don't put up those numbers. And 5'9'' players especially don't put up those numbers in a major conference. He's a legit candidate with no ifs, ands or buts. Best pure PG I've seen, been watching since about 1990.

From the UL game on, Ulis is averaging 20 points, 7.6 assists, 1.7 steals, and only 1.8 turnovers (4.3 ratio) and 2.3 fouls while playing 37.6 minutes and shooting 50.5% overall and 36.9% from three. We are watching something awesome, we better enjoy this while it lasts.

He is definitely in the running for POY. Easily the conference POY. I've been hesitant to say it, but Ulis is playing at a higher level than any PG that Calipari has had at UK.

For purely selfish reasons, I dearly want him to come back next year. I'm not at all ready to stop watching Ulis be a UK Wildcat. The kid is a joy to watch. Plus it'd be nice to see what he could do with some front line support like Bam Adebayo, instead of the charmin soft play from our bigs he's had to deal with this year.

And, at risk of beating a dead horse, man do I wish Tyler, instead of Andrew, had been in down the stretch of that Wisconsin FF game last year. We'd likely have No. 9 and an undefeated NC banner hanging in Rupp right now if he had been.

I have been watching UK BB for a long time it hard for me to remember anyone any better than Ulis, what I understand watching the Martin interview said he was one on the best PG s he has ever seen, that sounds like pretty high praise..

In that game, in the 17 minutes he played, he only attempted 4 FG - hit 2; and had only 1 assist. At that time, he wasn't the defender he was now. He was manhandled all over that court. Matchups were bad for him - that game for where he was in experience and skill.
I think we all know that the difference between a player's freshman and sophomore year can be huge; this is one of those times.

I will agree that I'd love to see him back though; of all the Cal era pgs, he's definitely the most fun, IMO. But yeah, it'd be selfish - can hope though, right?

I thought the offense consistently ran more fluidly when quarterbacked by Ulis than Harrison throughout last season, and believe it would have down the stretch of that Wisconsin game as well.

Do you really think we would have those three consecutive shot clock violations at crunch time of that game if Ulis had been running that offense? I don't believe so for a second.

I can remember when Ulis first committed everybody was saying he was to small and would not get to play that much , including myself, and he was not a 5 star player, wow what a surprised, Ulis was one of the best pickups for UK maybe ever..
