Short Q&A with Marvin Bagley

Someone fill me in on this garland guy. First off, is he a shooter, we can never have too many. Second where is he ranked my internet is slower than aol dial up, and third are we recruiting him? If not we need to even if it's just to reel in the big fish

Top 10 player in '18.
Presumed Duke lean.

I believe we are recruiting and iirc there was some rumor of reclassifying.

Why is it every damn player we go after or consider always seems to be a puke lean? Cal could recruit a guy ranked in the 300s and k would come calling just in spite of cal and ky. He will be coaching still ten years after he dies. They will have his urn and a magic 8 ball sitting in a chair and each player will ask it questions on which play to run and when.

Who is this Kevin Durant player he mentioned? Maybe we can sign him. Are we even recruiting him? Who is monitoring this stuff for the staff?

From Nashville, Ulis-style PG, father played in NBA, has attended Big Blue Madness. Highly ranked, but not as tall as Immanuel Quickley or Javonte Smart.

Garland is going to Duke. Cal isn't even trying to recruit him. Garland already talking about how he would like to play with Tre Jones (Tyus' brother) and Cam Reddish - both of whom are heavy Duke leans. So basically he's already regurgitating the Duke sales pitch.

Doesn't matter though. I don't think where Garland goes is going to be a huge factor in the end - remember Quade Green - Mo Bamba?

You sound like Tubby when he was told about Durant, regardless of the fact that he was already the #1 player in the country lol

I agree about Garland. But two points:

1. Duke doesn't get all their leans. This time last year Green, Knox, and Bamba were considered Duke leans. They didn't get those three. They did get Carter and Trent, who were considered near locks. I would put Garland and Jones close to the Carter/Trent, Giles/Tatum lock level. Reddish is not at that level just yet, IMHO.

2. Duke is going to be super, super young next season. Duval, Carter, and Trent are OAD. Allen graduates. Bolden is a mystery, but if he does anything he likely goes pro. They are probably going to start five Freshmen with no Seniors, one 4-star Junior (DeLaurier), one 4-star Soph (O'Connell), and two 3-star Juniors (Vrankovic, White) as backups. That will be the biggest test K has faced in the last two decades at Duke. I can't remember the last time Duke was without at least one starter level upperclassman? Even if they get all the studs they want, I expect them to struggle.

I figure Bagley will go straight to the draft so we shouldn't be looking for a PG just to satisfy him. Garland seems to be really good though.

Quoted.
How ya been boogie?
Lol doing good I talked to butters earlier told him my old lady is gettin out the ward today after she accidentally told her therapist she wanted to kill me. I guess he didn't get the joke. Gotta me sure I have plenty of Mountain Dew, little Debbie's, and some sheepskin rubbers ready for when angel gets out tonight. Plus my pits about to have a litter of pups. More good dogs for the fightin!

Good to hear you've moved on from googling Oden dong.

Great Point on Duke. They are so thin this year it will really affect them for a couple of years!

Good. Then we will finally get to see what K can do with five freshmen starters. I agree, I believe Duke struggles with that kind of roster.

Im sorry, I just have to laugh at the "Duke lean" crap. The Duke staff leaks positive spin to a slobbering media. Just look at the latest example, Bamba. Or Maybe Knox. Oh crap, They said it about Green too. Thats in ONE class. And one of those wasnt even considering Duke at the end.

Yep, All "Duke leans" at one time and even at the end by some.

UK's staff doesnt leak. Imo that stopped when Antigua left. I have absolutely no fear that Duke is really "leading" with any players other than in state OAD'S.

I don't ever remember much positive info on Bamba to Duke out there. Most the recruiting guys relinquished him well before his decision.

I don't think there are a ton of Duke "leans" this year but I would say Garland is very likely going to be at Duke. He's visited quite a few times including just last week.

That doesn't mean anything for Bagley though. A few off the cuff comments about a player in his class he likes probably won't carry any weight in his decision.

Duke is very confident about Garland, Reddish, and Jones right now. They'll make a push for one or two of Zion, Bagley, and Barret when he reclassifies but I only seeing them at most getting one of those. Maybe none.

Uh, well Ulis wasn't as tall as Harrison (or any other PG we've had). Height is just one of many useful attributes, that can be overcome.

Bagley is the one in that class I really want UK to get, but Bol Bol is very intriguing as well. Either one of those two are game changers IMO. Bagley is a little more polished and skilled right now though I think.
