Sheridan on Murray Draft Stock After Big Game

I am not sure what was going on with Murray before this last game but anyone who has ever watched him knew that he had the ability to do what he did this past Saturday. He has been extremely passive on offense for the most part with most of the aggressiveness being utilized on driving into a crowded lane. That is not his strength at all and he should only drive when it is there to do so. He is a scorer and a very good shooter. I certainly would not expect him to hit like that all the time as he was clearly in the zone but Murray is a lot better player than we have witnessed the first month of the season.

Our offense should revolve around Murray. He has the ability to put this team on his back and carry them just as he did this past weekend.

We all knew how talented he was, when he chose UK. I do think he has only scratched the surface of what he can do, and will get better. He does still need to improve on defense, before he becomes a great pro.

Good article. It shows that Cal told Murray to shoot and he started shooting.

Posters here lament on him being selfish when he isn't at all, he is just the opposite.

But he's Archie Goodwin 2.0??????????????????????????

It's funny that both Briscoe and Murray have both been compared to Archie by fans this year. Briscoe's the better comparison, of being a driving guard with a busted jumpshot who has to try to get to the rim one on everyone when nothing else is working, but I loved the "rich man's Archie Goodwin" description I saw. Briscoe is a better defender and a better facilitator off the drive. Murray... aside from both being guards, I don't see any resemblance.

As I've said before, it's not selfish when you are the ONLY guy on the team who can score. It will be selfish of the rest of the team if they don't get him 20-25 shots a game.

Murray should be the first, second and third option every trip down and the rest of the guys should rebound, defend and get garbage buckets.

Really wish people would stop using "Archie Goodwin" as a negative. He had issues. But for the 1,000th time, he was the only guy willing to drive the lane, didn't hesitate, and quite frankly, wasn't scared... which is how the rest of the team played. Goodwin took us out of some games, sure, but he was also the reason why we won games as well.

If Briscoe or Murray needs to channel some Goodwin and sack up? I'm all for it.

The NBA is in love with anyone they think can be the second coming of Steph Curry. Shooting guards are a hot commodity right now.

He is playing out of position because Ullis literally can't be moved anywhere else....playing PG and SG are two very different positions with two totally different sets of responsibilities. It's a adjustment from always having the ball in your hands and trying to set up others to score primarily and now suddenly being asked to play off the ball and lead your team in scoring.

No, the opposite. People always dog Goodwin, but we need players with that Kobe-like mentality. I've seen that out of Briscoe and Murray. We're going to need that if we want to make a run in the tournament. So if they, at times, need to demand the ball and take 25 shots a game, a la Archie, then that's a good thing to me. I don't see it as selfish at all.

Yeah if Murray can give us just 2 or 3 more of those types of performances or just taking a game over for short stretches that at the very least will keep him in the top 5 of this draft.

Personally I think he's a better prospect than Ingram. Ingram is long and skilled but also a bit on the slow side and not very explosive.

Murray is so much quicker with the ball than I realized before he got here and his handle is very good as well. You can tell how much time he spends working on his ball skills.

Murray is what scouts wanted Austin rivers to be IMO.

Murray is a one man wrecking crew.....he needs the GREEN light....do whatever you feel.

He will make the right decision....he has extremely high bball iq

Ha, why not give him the Greenlight against UofL? Let him get 25 shots, make UofL adjust and focus their attention on him all game. And when he starts to really get swamped, have him just kick it out to any other player.

Is that such a bad game plan?

Cal: "Ok, Ulis, you're turn today.. you're just going to gun it. Take it to the rack, hit the 3 if you have it. Attract them to you all game, then at the designated time, you're going to feed the ball the rest of the game. Make them swarm to you, then distribute."

I mean, on paper, that works, right?

Maybe there's a reason my basketball career ended at 13..

The way I look at all this is just think what we will be like when these kids reach close to their young potential say in Feb?

His stock is a heck of a lot higher than Malik Newman's :sunglasses:. Turns out I think we are all very glad we missed on that kid. Who would have thought at the time?

He has the Jodie Meeks lock-in factor but it only shows when the game is do or die. All the times iv seen him dominate he was playing for something. World vs USA game, pan am tourney, a loss that we couldn't take and get a #1seed.....etc. The key is making him do it all the time no matter the game.

I agree, and this Kentucky team will surface as well.
