The defection of Allen has shifted the course a bit with Bamba.
Shaka has always been in the mix bc he has very good relationship w bamba from their time on the U18 team.
But he has been really doing a nice sales/recruiting job to stay involved and has been able to ratchet it up the past two weeks.
Texas is very much in this thing.
A couple of the "experts" may move Texas to leader status. I'm not sure I'd agree, but this could be close to a coin flip right now.
To his credit, bamba not playing this out for attention and is keeping things close to the vest. I think he is very torn.

Here is my thing. What creates these buzzes about one school "coming on strong"? If Bamba isn't saying anything, then how does it have any credibility? Is it Texas guys putting that out there? I'm sure it's not UK people. Is it guys like Daniels or Meyer? If so, what are they going off of? I have always wondered how teams are making a push, or coming on strong.

If we miss on Bamba, we're going to struggle to make the tournament.

If Cal didn't think we were getting him, we'd have a backup plan and from what I've seen we don't have one.

Yeah, an "expert" changed his crystal ball pick earlier this morning to Texas.

I'm not sure what is publicly indicated to change expert opinions.
I do know Allen's decision has really helped Shaka's sales pitch.... that Bamba will be the anchor of a transformative recruting class in Texas basketball history.
As it stands, Texas brings in a consensus top-10 class.

Uh, nope and also a "Not Hardly"... (I'd agree on the other thoughts though but the cupboard is not bare.)

Can someone let me in on the negative of UK? This seems very odd w/Shaka, because how can you defend not making the tournament and being the worse team in the entire state of Texas and the worse team in the entire Big 12.

I don't see this, no matter how they tout a 4 star PG. 11-22 is all I need to see. Ridiculous.

If Coach Cal loses out to freaking Shaka Smart and Texas in this then Coach Cal has lost his edge completely.

I think the class we have coming in will be better than people realize - will we win the National Championship next year - who knows - but we will have a fun, exciting team to watch and several of these guys will be around the following year - and we will definitely be a favorite then. If all these guys leave after this season, it means they performed even better than expected and the season went better than expected.

I love the Cats, but our fan base can be exhausting. We have the # recruiting class in the country, what else do you want?

Don't get me wrong, I am holding my breath hoping we get Johnson and Bamba too but it is not doom and gloom if we don't.

Our recruiting has dipped I've been saying it for a while. Of course so many think that's so funny. Let's see how hard they laugh when Diallo leaves and Bamba goes to Texas.

All you're going to get in return is " we signed 100 10-25 recruits etc. completely void of any real thought process of how to build a title team. They are so duped by Cal coach speak tbey can't see it.

Hopefully it turns moot but I'm having doubts about things. I trust Cal to adjust for once and turn this crap around.

If you're referring to Nick Richards, Sacha Killeya Jones, and Tai Wynyard occupying our 5 spot as the cupboard not being bare then I respectfully and wholeheartedly disagree.

We don't have one sure fire lottery pick on our current roster and our team will consist of essentially nothing but freshman. That's not a recipe for success, even under Cal.

Torn between Texas and UK?My God kid UK is the best way to realize your NBA dream.

And we still haven't learned that the majority of kids aren't thinking about that and no longer see UK as the only way to get there. Kids want to win titles, shocking I know.

I like Shaka and think he could be a solid coach in the future. He really seems like a guy players would like to play for. However, I question any elite big who doesn't pick UK. I think our track record with bigs development speaks for itself.

Would the back up plan not be to play the 2 Mcdonalds All Americans we already have at center?

Coach Cal just goes out and gets the most talented kids he can find..he doesn't really recruit based on UK's needs unless it just happens to line up with the talent he plans on pulling in. He really started this after the 2015 season.

Hey man, we recruit positionLESS players. We've got a blue chip back up back up point guard who could easily Play center no?

Look I love Cal and want him to succeed. I just hope winning big here is still his highest goal and priority. I've had doubts for the first time about that lately. I think lots of folks are just itching. That '15 title was needed and this board would be crickets for the next half decade.

So your reasoning for Bamba potentially choosing Texas over UK is that kids have figured out you can get to the NBA at other schools and instead they're focused on titles? Texas barely won double-digit games last year.

You need to chill a little.
