This was a fun project! I wanted to compare all of Cal's pg's and see where SGA stacked up against them statistically. I used the last 5 games as the target pool for each year. The 3 SEC tournament games and the first 2 rounds of the NCAA tournament. Historically this is when our teams start to gel and come together. So it is a good pool of games to draw from. Obviously SGA hasn't played any further in the NCAA yet or I would have included those as well.

Theoretically in these five games we have played the toughest competition as we have all year long. Teams are more desperate and more motivated to keep playing till the horn blows in a single elimination tournament. We may have played more skilled competition previously but not more motivated. They know that if they don't win their season is over. So this is a good barometer to use to gauge all of Cal's pg's against.

SGA is something special and that is saying something when you think about all of the previous pg's that have come through these doors. I included all of Cal's pg's here except R.Harrow's season (to depressing for me to comb through) and the platoon season (tried but platooning skewed the numbers to much allthough I included Andrews freshmen year and Ulis' sophomore year).

I was going to give commentary on what the statistics show but I think I will just leave it at this and let you compare them if you want.

I truly appreciate what SGA is doing and I hope he keeps it up for another 4 games as I'm sure we won't have him around any more than that. He has made some money in the last 2 weeks. Congrats young man, you deserve it!!!

(Disclaimer: I got these numbers from espn so all stats are subject to their accuracy, the math... Well that is subject to my calculators accuracy, lol :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: enjoy)

Very cool, Sith. Wow--we have had some badass PGs.

I agree. When going through this list I kept coming back to a feeling of awe. I mean almost every single one of those guys are in the league RIGHT now. And if you substitute Bledsoe for Teague and it would be perfect. An amazing group of point guards. I would guess that no other school in history had this kind of run in their entire history and we've seen in in less than 10 years!

Truly a testament to Cal's genius.

Good work, Sithlyone. Sans SGA, this year’s UK team would be floating down Muddy Creek without a paddle. He has setup PJ for many of his thunderdunks. His drives and kick outs to Knox and WG for threes are hard to stop. He finishes most of his drives to the basket. Now, he’s starting to nail 3 pointers.

Really cool research on that. Illustrates a lot of truths.

Such as:

Wall was a great distributor, but also sloppy with the ball (something that still pretty much holds true, 8 years later)

Knight probably shot too much.

Teague was kind of a placeholder, but one who was capable of going off at certain times.

Andrew H was simply not the star everyone thought he would be (ditto his brother).

Tyler Ulis is harder to judge, because he spent a lot of time playing hero on what was probably Cal's 2nd worst team at UK. But, he did a damn fine job filling that role.

De' Aaron Fox is truly gifted in terms of beating guys off the dribble and scoring, but his overall PG skills are a work in progress (very much playing out in the NBA so far).

All of that is right there in the stats. Which bodes really, really well for SGA, because he's #1 in terms of overall efficiency, even outpacing Tyler Ulis, who was pretty damn efficient. And of course, he's 8-9 inches taller than Tyler, which makes a big difference on the defensive side of the court.

You could see it in the derby classic a man Amongst boys out there. Dude was killing it. Losing out on Trey young was a huge blessing in disguise as I think trey would be running the point since that's what he wanted to do and sga would be at the two but young would pour and kill team chemistry. Thanks again Florida

I think Cal wouldn't stand for Trey to be hog that he is. We would have had chemistry issues but he would have either gotten that out of him or he would have been on the bench. SGA is just that good.
