South carolina absolutely stinks, Vandy killed them 10-0. STill can't figure out how USC took a series from Texas.
Auburn and Alabama stink. We play Auburn, but not alabama this year.
LSU is struggling under their new coach, though they generally seem to pull themselves together as the year goes on.
The class of the league, IMO, are Vandy and Tennessee. These two look like juggernauts, with Florida and Ole Miss and ARkansas behind the two of them.
The next two weekends will tell the tale for UK. We need to win the series this weekend, and we really need to avoid getting swept at home by Ole Miss.
Alright. I’ll bite. So, I’ll say let’s say just for the sake of argument, UK loses the series against Georgia 1-2. That puts them 1-5 in conference play.
Against Ole Miss, same thing. 1-2. So we’re looking at 2-7 going into College station to play a Texas A&M team that is better than I thought they would be but not setting the world on fire. But it is on the road in the SEC but we’ll say UK wins the series 2-1.
UK is 4-8 going into the Mizzou series. Mizzou is terrible. UK sweeps, don’t think they will but let’s hold out hope. 7-8.
Next up is Vandy. I just hope for one but I could see this being a sweep. 7-11.
At this point, if history tells us anything, UK has to get 14 wins in conference play to make the NCAA tournament. Next you have Florida. Florida and UK series are always interesting. I’m going on a limb and say UK wins this series. 9-12. But could lose it as well and UK is 8-13.
Tennessee is next. And let’s face it, UT may be the best team in the SEC. God that pains me to say that. But, UK plays tough and wins one. 10-14 maybe 9-13.
Lastly, you have South Carolina and Auburn. Based on results to this point, let’s say UK wins both series 4-2. Looking at potentially 14-16 or at worst 13-17. Now, I know all this is guess work and anything could happen. Just how I see it.
13 wins and an early exit from the SEC tournament, Cats miss the NCAA again. 14 wins and there’s a decent chance Kentucky sneaks in. That’s why UK absolutely has to win this series this weekend. And they absolutely have to avoid another sweep.
As I’ve said since the TCU series. I’m still very bullish on this team. I hope that I am wrong in most of my breakdown. That being said. Go Cats.
