Actually I guess today could be day 1 and 3/4. Georgia and State start off the day. Looks like USC is going to start a freshman today against us.

Nope, it will be Brad Schaenzer the lefty from Michigan. He is 5-0 on the season !
Right, I guess I didn't actually ask my question. Why isn't Hjelle starting? Wondered if that was normal for game one of the SEC tournament.

Schaenzer is from my neck of the woods. I live 20 minutes from his high school.

I suppose there are multiple theories on it. For the Tuesday game, it is a pretty short turnaround to pitch Thursday and then throw again on Tuesday. 5 days rest is pretty good and that would be what Hjelle had, but I think Mingione and Belanger want to keep the rotation pretty close to what it has been. Brad Schaenzer should be relatively fresh after only throwing 31 pitches last Friday. He is a pretty solid pitcher who has a few starts on the year and who has pitched pretty well. Still, got to make sure that we win this first game, because I think we need to do everything we can to boost our RPI and our resume.

The key here is what will they do in regards to Logue/Thompson? Do they keep Logue in to pitch on Saturday or will we go to Thompson? May depends on how things go the first two days.

I know balls have been flying out of the park more at Hoover through the first day but maybe the field here will play to his advantage. Logue seems to give up the HR ball more often which sets him back.

Sure hope the bats are going and this pitching experaiment works...scares me because we CANNOT lose today and expect a national seed!!

Logue is having a ton of trouble with the long ball. Here is how it has been broken down:

Florida - 6 earned runs with 2 off of a single home run. HR total: 1
Tennessee - 3 earned runs w/ 2 off of two solo home runs. HR: 3
UGA - 4 earned runs w/ 4 off of two home runs. HR: 5
USC - 2 earned runs w/ 2 off of one home run: HR: 6
LSU - 3 earned runs w/ 0 home runs
Mizzou - 7 earned runs with 5 earned runs off 4 home runs. HR: 10
Miss. State - 7 earned runs with 6 off of 3 home runs. HR: 13
Vandy - 1 earned run on 1 home run HR: 14
Ole Miss - 2 earned runs on 2 home runs HR: 16
TAMU - 3 earned runs w/ 1 on 1 solo. HR: 17

Clearly he has struggled with the home run in SEC play. That's 27 of the 43 total (38 in SEC play) earned runs he's given up this season coming solely in SEC play and coming by way of the long ball.

Cats get out of trouble in second. First 2 men on, but schaenzer gets out of a jam by getting two straight pop-ups to end the inning.

Jesus, schaenzer was rolling along with a strikeout and now can't throw a strike. Big trouble here with bases loaded

South Carolina leads 1-0 on a sac fly. Which brings me to my next question. What's the bullpen strategy for today?

Don't know what has gotten into the coaches the last three gamesl Logue instead of Thompson? Are you kidding me!!!

White too impatient in that at bat, swung at a pitch a foot and a half outside, did get an RBI ground out, but could have had a 2 RBI hit maybe.
Becker gets an RBI with help of gamecock 2nd baseman tied at 2.
