I was watching SEC storied about CM Newton and I laughed at the irony that he saved UK on the day he got fired by UofL.

If you think about it, it is truly amazing all of the important people and events C.M. Newton was involved with pertaining to the SEC. He played on a National Championship team at UK for Coach Rupp in 1951. Bear Bryant, who would later become Newton's boss, was football coach at UK when Newton was a player. Then he was a successful head coach at Alabama when Bryant was AD. He was also successful at Vandy as a head coach. He was AD at UK for two National Championship's under two different coaches, both of whom he hired. He was Conference Commissioner. He was national head of the tournament committee. Even the Mumme hiring at UK doesn't look so bad, given that no one was running the Air Raid when he hired Mumme, and now probably 75% or more of the teams in the country are running some variation of it. What an amazing career Newton had.

No to all this. He sucked (along w Hagan). Get his name off the field.

Despite all of his influence, he was also around when the Florida football game got moved from November to September. UK lost a huge home field advantage and the Swamp picked up one.
