SDS - Reasons why Kentucky has no business losing to South Carolina

That is the biggest load of BS. Each team has huge question marks and if you go off every teams first game then Florida should win the national championship.

Yah I dont agree with it either.

I mainly posted it because it just seems like some people are starting to give UK a little props and its nice to see. I dont think UK wins this weekend, but its nice to read people even thinking this could be a good match. Unlike years before, when it was gonna be a sure loss.

You sound as if you assumed it was going to be a blowout, as if South Carolina was capable offensively of blowing anybody out right now.

UNC torched South Carolina for 208 on the ground. If the O-Line can play halfway decent, our trio of Boom, JoJo and Horton may very well abuse them. If Towles turns in a decent game (10-12 completions, 2 Td's/0 ints) and our RBs perform, I think we leave Columbia victorious.

LoL Yes Sir! As much as I enjoyed reading the article, it had a distinct homer feel to it.

No Im saying a few years ago USC did blow us out. And in recent years, everyone would be predicting a blow out.

But UK is starting to get some positive publicity and I like it. I do think South Carolina will win though. But it's gonna be close.

Trying to understand your point here. ULL gained 247 yards against your D, and UK only managed 178 yards rushing against ULL. So if 208 yards is torching a defense, then what is 248 yards? And if 208 yards is torching a defense, then clearly UK was underwhelming against ULL.

If I may attempt an interpretation, he is saying that UK's RBs are better than UNC's, and that USC's RBs aren't as good as ULL's...

Why do you think UK's RBs are better than UNCs?

Honest question. Elijah Hood was a very highly rated back who looks really good and the guys behind him are a lot like the guys that UK has, IMO.

Posted this before, but I'll post again. I encourage you to validate any belief that Elijah Hood is a better RB than Boom Williams. Let's get this in the open right now; Elijah Hood being a 5 star RB out of high school does not validate it. This is college ball, not high school ball.

Rushing:
Elijah Hood - 79 career carries, 397 yards (avg 5.0 ypc), 4 touchdowns (1 career game w/ 100 yd rushing)
Boom Williams - 84 career carries, 621 yards (avg 7.3 ypc), 6 touchdowns (4 career games w/ 100 yd rushing)

Receiving:
Elijah Hood - 2 career receptions, -2 yards, 0 touchdowns
Boom Williams - 17 career receptions, 162 yards, 1 touchdown

Kick Return:
Elijah Hood - 0 returns
Boom Williams - 19 returns, 511 yards, 0 touchdowns (Freshman All-American kick returner)

Also, will add, both are true sophomores.

I love it when people bring up the rushing stats vs UNC. Again you take away 2 big plays in the run game that UNC had and the rushing stat drops dramatically. 2nd USC was playing 5 DBs and a small pass rushing and wide gap defensive line. So the rushing and really the passing stat are misleading. The same thing can be said for the passing game in terms of big plays. You take 2-4 big plays away from UNC and the passing a yards drop significantly. So take away 4-5 big plays away from UNC and the stat line truly matches the final score.

I feel like our bad 2nd half was more of a product of letting off the gas and trying to cruise to a victory. what you saw out of the 1st half is probably a lot closer to how good this team will be vs what you saw in the 2nd half...

yeah yeah... take away all their good plays and we had a pretty good game! lol. take away jordans 6 championships and he was a pretty average player! lol

Fair enough. You think boom had a better freshman year so he's the better back. That's certainly a reasonable argument.

Seems easier just to count all the plays.

The same can be said for Kentucky. "Had we not let off the gas we would have blown them out" well you did let off the gas and nearly lost to ULL. But at the end of the day this game this weekend is anyone's game for the taking.

agree. we let off the gas. this a young team. talented but young. not a winning tradition at UK. when you mix youth and a losing tradition, one of the things you have to learn is how to put teams away...

Either team can win. but Kentucky Should win. my opinion is biased, but I think kentucky makes a statement out of USCjr and wins by 2 TD

you and your gamecock fans will probably have a good laugh out of that, but I think a statement game is coming for Kentucky THIS SEASON and given USCjr's current state of affairs they are ripe for the pickin...

Take away 2 big plays and hood still ran for 8 yards per carry.
You all are truly delusional. In every sense of the word. Like the epitome of delusion.

You all are a middling to poor football team that beat an overrated acc team that has been sliding consistently for 4 years and you want to excuse away your statistical deficiencies.

Delusional.

I'm a South Carolina fan but I also have a clear head about this game. If I think we will lose then I will gladly admit it. But I think this defense is 1,000x better than the one last year. And the defense last year held Kentucky to 24 points into the 4th quarter at Kentucky. Now I believe SC passing game is better than what was brought to the field on Thursday. Passes were dropped and Mitch missed a couple of easy throws due to nerves. The only way Kentucky wins by 10+ is if they get 35+ points and I truly don't see this happening. SC defense will get stops and the offense will try to control TOP. But again if this thing turns into a high scoring affair then only 1 team will be doing the scoring and that's Kentucky.

You're the type of fan that ruins sports. We've been on the downside for the past 4 seasons? 3 straight 11 win seasons and what has Kentucky done? Wait till November when basketball season starts. You haven't won a road SEC game in 6 freaking years. I tried giving both teams their dues and be fair to both teams but you're truly the kind of fan that really doesn't know the first thing about football and thinks you replace a football for a basketball in a football game.

This is a stupid post... stats are stats and you can't "take" them away... three 80 yd td runs count the same as 3 80 yd 5 min drives...it's fb and the team that scores the most points wins regardless of how those pts are scored... just like otis fans now claiming that they are better than Aub because they had better stats... Hell Aub was up 24-0 and Otis never had the ball with a chance to win or tie the game...

This is very true. Then explain to the other Kentucky fans that you can't just take away 3INTs or UNC wins huge. They happened and the defense did the job nobody handed the ball over to the guys.

Again... true delusion.

Mitch doesn't have a single game in his career where he has completed more than 50% of his passes. In fact, he has completed about 40% of his passes for his career.

There is a reason why basically every publication ranked south Carolina in the bottom 2 of quarterback talent in the sec. Your quarterbacks are awful.

Yep doesn't have one because he's only started in 1 freaking game and your quarterback has nurmerous starts and still goes through the same troubles as anybody else. 1 half he looks unstoppable and the 2nd he couldn't hit the student section 5 yards away.

Agree somewhat here on the int and guys need to make plays when they need to...dropped ints by UK secendary last year kept UK from beating UF and ul

I was talking about unc. Learn to read...

"...Beat an overrated acc team that has been sliding consistently for 4 years ."

Most USCjr fans I have interacted with on the Internet this week have had basic difficulty with reading comprehension.

That being said, you all were 7-6 last year and projected to finish 6-6 this year. You aren't any better than average.

Mitch definitely has issues, unless they simply run roughshod over us, I agree we should be the ones with the high score if one team is getting over 30, assuming PT is doing well.

And in 3 career games your qb has never looked any better than a walk on scout teamer going against the 85 bears.

Fair enough. You think boom had a better freshman year so he's the better back. That's certainly a reasonable argument.

They're sophomores, so it's the only valid argument. I'm curious what makes somebody believe that Hood is better, because I haven't seen it.

.

Mitch has played in exactly 3 games and has one career start. Coming in he had 6 career passing attempts in 2 series of play.

Do you think that's a relevant sample size given he spent the past two years behind 1) the all time winningest QB in USC history and 2) the all time single season passing record holder at USC, who lead the SEC in passing last season?

I'm not really sold on the kid either but he's barely had an opportunity to get his toes wet to this point in his career.

I think it is based off his potential coming in. He definitely has NFL size. He was injured some last year but as you pointed out they have close to the same carries and Boom's stats are much better.

If Hood stays healthy I think he will be a premier back, Boom already is and he must stay healthy as well. NFL goes with Hood on size and potential over Boom though even if they left today IMO.

They're sophomores, so it's the only valid argument. I'm curious what makes somebody believe that Hood is better, because I haven't seen it.

Well that's a good question. I'm not sure I do think Hood is definitely better. I am sure that I think Hood is very talented.

I posted this last week and got flamed for it, but I'll say it again. I think UNC is much better than what people are giving them credit for. I think UNC/UK are roughly on the same talent level with South Carolina having a slight edge on both.

Look, I posted the article only to show that UK is getting some recognition. Do I think UK can go into Columbia and knock off USC? Yeah. Do I think it will happen? Probably not.

I'm just not sure our run defense is going to put us into a position to win.

This where I am as well. I certainly do not like the fact that Flannigan may not play again. The offense/PT must take up the slack and keep the pressure on SC and we make OBC start tossing it.
