Effing dumpster fire of a franchise. Headed back toward the inglorious days of the early 80s when we lost 100+ a year. Hell just trade everybody and play with the Louisville Bats roster. #rantover

Who did they trade?

Was furious about it at first but then realized that now that I can quit paying attention to the Reds, Kentucky basketball is all I have left. It feels good to only be in 'give an ish' mode with one team at this point in life.

NBA = don't care, never have
NFL = don't care, the gangster Bengals drove me away a decade ago
MLB = used to care, no longer do because it's obvious the Reds do not
NCAA Football = Recent change to not caring; just not worth my time or the constant kick in the nuts provided by UK football.

Wow, just read ESPN. They traded Chapman too?

smh Go ahead and stick a fork in these guys.

they had all these guys, and still lost 98 games last season. you idiots do realize this.

i mean....don't you??

I am about done with the Reds. The final 4 playoff teams last year all had a former Red on them. I am tired of the "rebuilding" bs. They are always rebuilding because they get prospects, build them up and then trade them to avoid paying them. I realize the Reds are a small market team but this is crap. They constantly have to rebuild because they tear down what they built. Instead of trading players they should like Bruce, they trade players they say are untouchable like Frazier. If they want to be a farm team like they more or less have been, then leave MLB and become an AAA club. Otherwise be a major league team and act like one.

Clearly some have no clue what will bring success when you spend $60M a year on Votto, Bruce and Bailey.

when???

they haven't gone full blown rebuilding mode in forever.

Bruce and Bailey have got to go. Phillips will be the next to go which I hate but agree with. They won't get rid of Votto because I don't think he will waive his no trade clause. I don't think they need to get rid of Votto either. I think he will return to the play of his MVP season. They just keep trading the players around him so he can't do it alone.

The Reds have always gotten rid of their good players in their primes. I've been a fan of the Reds since the Big Red Machine. If the ownership today had been around then, BRM never would have existed. They would have traded them all.

The Chapman deal did not go thru. Cinci did well in the Frazier deal and that is a start to getting competitive again. But that will take awhile!

Swear I read on epsn that Chapman was traded to Dodgers for 3 minors.
I'll see if I can find it
The trade fell through when Dodgers found out about him shooting his house up and a domestic violence accusation

Like the post above, I have yet to see any MLB insider/reporter say the Reds did well in the trade. Not a single one said that. None on ESPN. None on Sirius. Not a one.

Bruce and Bailey have got to go.

Please show me ONE team stupid enough to take Bailey's contract. The Reds can't give Bruce away and if Dusty trades for BP and that contract the Reds should give him a parade

First off, you red fans would have cried to no end if they didn't keep Votto and that is the root of the problem now in Cinci. They are keeping the wrong players!

Signing Bailey before Cueto was just piss poor management, and no your not going to trade Bruce or Bailey because no one is taking those contracts.......NO ONE.

So what they are doing is now smart! Frazier is a FA after the season and they got a great prospect for him and control him for very cheap.

But they need more of that so hopefully a Chapman deal gets worked out.

Frazier has two years left on his contract, both under 10 mil. They did not get an elite prospect at all. Most talking heads say Dodgers got best prospect in Thompson. Just a total botch job

Votto has a no trade clause. Frazier had repeatedly said he wanted to stay in Cincy. Cincy said he was untouchable. If you want to trade Frazier, you have to at least get someone for him. Not mid level prospects. It was a piss poor trade. Krazykats you aren't even a Reds fan. You keep saying that the Reds got good prospects. You are the only one. Please forgive me if we take the words of guys like Buster Olney and Tim Kurkjian over you. The Reds gave away a proven talent, an all star, and a downright good guy who did many things for the city of Cincinnati and got crap in return.

Bruce's contract isn't bad. You could find someone to take him, but you wouldn't get much of a return.

They started rookie pitchers the entire last half of the season after trading Cueto and Leake. And Homer "I got Johnny's money" Bailey missed the whole season.

Yes they were bad but they tanked and got worse.

"What this trade boils down to, then, is the Reds giving up a star third baseman with two years of club control left and getting back one good prospect and two not-so-good prospects. We can grant that they may know something about Schebler and Dixon that we don't, but for now, it's fair to wonder if they could have done better." Zachary D. Rymer , MLB Lead Writer

Let's just say those talking heads on ESPN are always right I guess! I mean they once said Oakland took my Cubs to the woodshed for Samarzdija and Jason Hammel! In return we got Addison Russell and Billy McKinney.........yep those guys never side with the team getting prospects!

Look on the field Frazier will not produce like he did for awhile, IMHO, and what the Reds got they needed a lot more anyway!

Hamilton/Pereza as a 1/2 will be hell on opposing pitchers and defenses. With Votto cleaning up and if you can get Bruce to bounce back that offense won't be any worse than before and will be a lot younger too.

Also as a whole team the outcome of this deal is dependent on what they can do with BP.

I'm not a Reds hater by any stretch and I follow baseball as a whole.

What part of Hamilton's average and OBP excites you the most?

And Bruce bouncing back? He has never bounced...he has always been pathetic.

Bruce is streaky hitter, goes on 2-3 week binges of solid hitting, then a 15 week slump. They haven't gotten anything but the DL from Bailey since he signed his whopper of a contract. he can't be traded now, because he's damaged goods, they need to see how he bounces back from Tommy John Surgery before he gets some value back. I guess Votto's contract will keep him around as well. They won't be able to move Chapman until any disciplinary action is handed down to him. I hated seeing Frazier go, he was becoming my favorite player, seemed like a solid clubhouse guy and solid citizen. played some darn good baseball too. It will be interesting to see what happens with Phillips. I don't know if he's just playing games by holding out on waiving his no trade clause, or if he's just waiting for a true contender to make an offer for him. Washington isn't a bad place, they'll be decent, not sure if they are a contender or not. It will be interesting to see who becomes mid-season trade bait if any of these guys are still around. it's pretty certain the Reds will be sellers as they will likely be one of the worst teams in baseball this year.

I still think they need to find a decent experienced veteran pitcher or two to add some stability to the lineup. there was some talk about bringing back Bronson Arroyo, they could do worse, but even he's bouncing back from a serious injury, something he never experienced as a Red, so it's yet to be seen how much he truly has left, or if he's just washed up. I'm not sure who exactly is available out there in the Free Agent market, but I hope they can land somebody.

It sucks losing the key cogs of a 64-98 juggernaut.

Aside from giving Votto, BP, and Homer the ridiculous contracts in the first place, the mistake the Reds made wasn;t trading Frazier, or trying to trade Chapman or BP....they should have started on this rebuild after the 2013 wildcard meltdown....it was obvious at that point that the window was closed and the rebuild needed to happen. Now, they've overplayed their hand and are not going to get full value on these guys.

I don't even have Kentucky basketball, B ball just not my sport, and the Reds and UK football are pretty much headed in the same direction, perennial cellar dwellers. NFL is meh, I watch during the last couple of weeks of regular season and the playoffs, but that is about it.

I have no hope my Reds will ever be in the World Series before I am gone. 26 years and counting.
At least Calipari keeps us in the conversation. Bless him.

Pretty much.

Opening Day in a few hours. I watch every Reds game, win or lose. Just gives me something to do to bide time until Kentucky Basketball starts back up.

So far they aren't looking like one of the worst teams in baseball. But then again they started last year 4-0 and we all know how that season ended up.

I just hope they can stay healthy (though their pitching staff is loaded up with nagging injuries) and stay in the hunt past the all star break. They'll get a good chance to figure out where they really stand over the next couple of weeks when they play the Cubs seven times with St Louis sandwiched in there.
