Schools with the most blue chip recruits on roster

Yeah, I heard Alabamas number not too long ago and about fainted. That’s just absolutely unreal to recruit at that level.

And unfortunately the reason we’ll never be very good compared to others in our conference.

What is considered a blue chip recruit in football? 4 star and above?

Depending on the ranking service, that’s 300-400 kids per year. That’s a wide margin of blue chip recruits and I imagine a majority of the ones on UK’s roster are in that bottom 25% of the 300-400 players.

I can only imagine how low that number was prior to Stoops making major strides in recruiting.

What others? There are seven SEC teams above us. We can still average 4-6 conference wins a year and I’d be pleased, can’t ask for much more than that based on how low we were ten years ago. Go 8-4, 9-3 on average in this conference and you’re a solid team.

Yeah, that seems about right.

Big Midwestern and Southern schools overwhelmingly.

It is mind boggling that Bama has 10 more than UGA, 20 more than Notre Dame and 30+ more (an entire offense, defense, and special teams) than Michigan, LSU, Auburn.

That's absurd.

This just kind of confirms why portal and NIL are a good thing. Long term it will be better for the game if the talent spreads out to other programs and conferences.

It will bring more interest and money in. Case in point Colorado getting better ratings than Bama and Texas...people are shocked...but really, it's like folks have forgotten there are people, sports fans, and big markets west of the Mississippi.

Then you think about the individual talent that is going to get play and be discovered as opposed to sitting 3 years at a big boy and maybe getting some play in some packages as a Jr/Sr.

That kind of pisses me off just thinking about all the talent that has sat at those top programs that never got to play a lot, be seen, etc...

That's why I like NIL and portal/free agency. Now the big boys can't just hoard talent.

Those 74 for BAMA did not do much against Texas. Yes having guys on your team is legit, but how many of those blue chip guys are actual DOGS. Attitude is the difference in the Alabama's, Georgia's and the rest of the SEC. You see 7 or so teams with a bunch of blue chip guys. Coaches have to get that little extra each week for each match up. That is the hard part. Getting 74 top recruits to be selfless, play 11 as 1 on either side of the ball, trusting one another and then taking all of that and putting the confidence and attitude to make the perfect drink. Hard to do every year and why Nick and now Kirby and doing special things.

^This.

And then you also hope that Stoops and Co. catch lightning in a bottle with someone like an under-the-radar Josh Allen type or two to have a shot at a special season beyond that.

Good perspective that this may even out talent.....but why is Bama still so dominate of an 85 man roster 74 are 'blue chip'. Portal and NIL has been in play for 3 years now....and it hasn't flattened out them yet.

But are they really that special?

1. Bama has mostly 4/5 stars starting on all 22 starting spots and bench guys galore that are rated very high as well.
2. Now...Bama can cherry pick some spots here/there when they're recruits don't pan out and/or coaches can't coach them up. RB Gibbs from Ga Tech, LT Steen from Vandy, WR Jamison Williams from Fl St, CB - Eli Ricks LSU etc....
3. Bama was trying like hell to get Drake Maye from UNC to hit portal and $$$ him off....and we can see why.

I think Saban is a great coach but is it really that amazing when not only can you just buy/recruit your roster 15 years ago...but now you can cherry pick off of others for spots when your roster falls short. I mean if Saban was such a genius....he'd have done at least a bit for his 1 years Dolphins year. College sports in general is morphing into a glorified AAU/Travel ball scheme. Just pick up all the talent you can anyway you can, glue together a so called "team" and beat up on lesser talented teams. YAY...I guess!🤷‍♂️

What if we could go back in time for just one recruit!?!?

How nice would it have been to have two unheard of Josh Allen’s . . . one at Jack and one at Quarterback . . . and at the same time?

Will take time, I think.

Bama and the top 10% of programs are still what they are. They still have the brand, platforms, pageantry, tradition, allure that isn't going to go away.

Big changes all kind of happening at once in CFB that are going to need a few years to settle.

NIL, portal, realignment, conference schedule and play off expansion, media deals, etc...

In addition to portal and NIL, exposure of new teams in new markets I think will play a role in talent dispersion as well. A big chunk of recruiting is just being seen.

When your tv exposure, and just playing games in general are limited to a certain area...you're limited.

USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington playing in Buckeye and Michigan stadiums, eastern time zone. New recruiting bases. Same goes the other way around when the B10 teams play on the west coast.

It's why I've always been so anti our OOC schedule. We play Lake Erie commuter schools...nobody outside Ohio or Kentucky sees UK football until about October when we're getting rag dolled by UGA, UT, etc...and we all sit here every year saying the same shit "why aren't we getting the talent?"

BECAUSE THE TALENT HASN'T SEEN US PLAY!!!

I cannot wait to start playing Texas and I hope we bring in a PAC team and or east coast team too. The Marrow and Stoops rust belt territories are tapped out.

There is so much talent in Texas that just playing a TCU, SMU, Tech, Baylor etc over the years would have exposed us to. A lot of kids who wouldn't have gotten picked up by those teams or the horns but maybe seeing Kentucky would have planted a seed.

That's what playing in Austin is going to do. Lots of talent in stadium watching and watching at home who won't get a look from Sark, but they see the blue and white, they see LC and his offense...A 3-star Texas kid is a 4 or 5 star anywhere else...2-3 kids change a roster. Especially if one is a QB.

Well, that might be true for all the others, but I’ve heard Ray Davis and Devin Leary interviews: they fell in love with the campus, all the UK paraphernalia worn by us at the Mall, and the fast horses and beautiful women . . . or fast women and beautiful horses . . . or something a whole lot like that!!

For sure...UK is doing this to stay relevant as well. Leary did get a nice NIL $$$ that was part of his rationale to get to Ky along with playing in NFL system for Coen. But UK is part of the AAU collegiate culture at a smaller percentage that schools like Auburn, USC, FSU, BAMA, etc....

I was trying to be a bit of a smart-ass.

The media folks do a good job with our players and transfers. Yes, Leary got some NIL, but his early interviews quickly focused on a trip to the Mall and seeing UK swag, the beauty of the campus, etc.

It goes back 50 years for me. When others were accused of buying players, my Dad would adopt his smart-ass Southern accent, and say UK didn’t have to buy players, once they had visited the Bluegrass, who could possibly say “no?”

Lol.

Beautiful horses, and all!
