Scary when Vandy’s coach is predicting the Dores to eventually be the best team in the country

Vandy has always had deep pockets and the number one complaint for decades was they never spent it and are behind in upgrades and facilities and budgets. Sure they are making moves now but I refuse to believe they are gonna suddenly become a player in the world of NIL and sports… at their core, they are an academic school and would be ok as that being their only priority

Every coach has to talk like this. If the team doesn't think you believe in them then they won't believe in the coaches. Imagine going through two-a-days in the Nashville humidity next week with a coach saying anything less.
Point taken but do you really have to make claims you will be the best in the country after a 2-10 season to motivate your team? After all, these boys are going to Vanderbilt, they aint stupid.

You gotta sell it. Saying we will go 8-4 doesn't do enough, I don't think.

If Vandy pockets are so deep why do they play in a glorified high school stadium?
Just read where the Vanderbilt fortune was squandered so maybe Sax is right, motivation?
This whole NIL thing is a brave new world isnt it? Lol

From the article:

"We are engaged in what has become a unique form of team building," Lea said. "We are a relationship-driven, student-athlete-focused program that values the holistic development of our people over all else.”

Yeah, Riiight!

Everybody has a holistic development plan until they get punched in the mouth.

I really don’t think this article is NIL related.

Speaking confidence about your team is a better approach than nonsense. You can say we will be the most improved team in the country this year by a wide margin and have your team by in on that. Have to keep it real!!!
Keeping it real does not inspire. That’s the point.

Imagine mark stoops being real in 2013 and saying “within two seasons we will beat a 4-8 sec east team, and within four seasons we will go 7-5.” What four star players would be excited by that very meh future?

you gotta sell and fantastical vision to get buy in regardless of topic. “You gotta but this tech stock that aims for 6.5% growth over the next 15 years” doesn’t quite so it.

Vanderbilt puts they money in medical facilities and nanotechnology departments.
Even with billions to spend on athletics, they will never find enough SEC quality athletes capable of handling Vanderbilt curriculum

Many, many Moons ago Vandy was THE Southern football power, 1920s I think. When Neyland was hired at TN his #1 priority was to beat Vandy....not GA or Bama or LSU or UF but Vandy. The Vandy admin decided for some reason to deemphasis football and turn to education. Vandy soon became a whipping boy.

To present day, a couple of things: Vandy is spending or will be spending $300M on athletic facilities, first time in decades for such funding. A recent study disclosed mid-TN was one of the fastest growing areas in the U.S. Projected growth was 1M people over the next decade. That's a lot of potential football players(good reason UK is hot into that area recruiting). I fully expect Vandy to improve in the years ahead. To the level Lea wants, who knows but they will get better.

Weren't 2-a-days eliminated??

He said best "program", not best team. Best "program" can be defined any way he wants to define it, perhaps by APR. I doubt he expects Vanderbilt to be the best team anytime soon.

Education was always a priority at Vandy.

Notice your dates . . . until the late 20’s private schools like Harvard, Vandy, Yale, and even Centre dominated the college football scene.

Why?

A good part of it was the precursor to the NIL. Players at private schools were generally well compensated by wealthy alumni.

Again, on dates, UK was founded in 1865, so in 1920, the oldest graduates of UK were only 51 years old. Danville, and communities surrounding it had a lot of 75 and 80 year old Centre grads with money, by then.

I understand what he is doing and why. Believe Vandy players know they were not a very good team last season. He has to show them that he believes in them, if he doesn't what's the point of being there. Would it have been better if he had come out and said we don't have the athletes to compete with any conference members but we are going to show up most Saturdays for our weekly beating? I say most because they didn't show up for our homecoming in 2020. But if he doesn't convince them he believes in them, who is?

So what are you saying, we fans should get older faster? If that is the case I have already done my part, lol.

I mean what is he supposed to say? " I'm looking forward to getting curbed stopped week after week and with a lot of hard work maybe I can sneak an SEC win in before I get fired" ?
No but we are talking extremes here. Saying what he said makes one think they had a BOGO sale on crack rock in Nashville recently.

No noes one person violated the sanctity of the [checks notes] SEC Media Days Preseason Poll and voted Vandy to win the East:

Oh, the humanity.

Money isn’t the problem at vandy.
It’s that these kids who want the money wont have the grades or ability to go to school there

Reminds me of a political joke I heard many years ago. I will change it to football:
The Florida coach, the Tennessee coach and the Vandy coach appeared before God and God allowed them to ask one question each. The Tennesse coach asked, "Will
people ever forget that Tennesse is a long-time cheat and snitched on itself?" God answered, "Yes, but not in your lifetime." The Flordia coach asked, " Will Florida fans and the nation ever forget what a flop and a failure Dan Mullen was at Florida?" God answered, " Yes, but not in your lifetime." The Vandy coach asked, " Will Vandy ever win a National Championship?" God answered, " Yes, but not in my lifetime."

Somebody needs to give this guy a drug screen. Vanderbilt couldn't when when they had Bill Parcells on its staff.

As for Vanderbilt getting a vote, I would guess it's either a vote from someone with ties to the school or a charity vote from someone who appreciates their academic standards. It's laughable. If Vanderbilt wins 4 games, Lea should immediately get a massive extension.

As for South Carolina, it's a bit different, because this is a team with a very promising coach who has brought a good vibe to the program and a team what now has a 5 star quarterback, a guy who at one point was projected as possible high first round pick prior to a spotty 2021 season. They could easily have a good season. But finishing first? More plausible than Vandy finishing first, but it's still pretty laughable.

Vandy's coach is an alumni, he is trying to show his kids he believes in them. What is he suppose to say, I hope we can score every game and hold teams to less than 50?

As for as Carolina goes he has brought a good vibe to the program, the fans are flying high this off season. Not sold on Rattler, he is going to face multiple defenses better than any he has seen. I think their record was inflated last year by getting both UF and AU after they had quit. But they have done a good job with the portal, they have also recruited much better alone the DL than they have played. I don't know if it's injuries or poor development. Billy Napier is a good guy, was hoping his opportunity was out of the SEC, I just think they finish ahead of the Gamecocks, top to bottom I think they have a better roster

So if UK was founded in 1865 wouldn't its first graduating class have been around about 1869? Assuming an average grad was 21 or 22 then those grads were born in 1847 or 48 making them well into their 70s by 1920

Honestly, I thought that was a quote from their baseball coach.

Yes, I forgot that they were at least 18’when they arrived.

But there were still damn few of them compared to the multiple generations who had graduated Centre, beginning in 1823.
