This is an excellent interview with #31....Sam Bowie.

If you never got to see him play this interview will give you some insight into the player and the man.

Sam is a great spokesman for UK. Wish we had more like him in the country today.

Watching Bowie in the early 80’s was a treat. Add Turpin in there as well to create the twin towers it was such a fun time to be a fan. Loved having new players on the team that you knew would be there most likely for 4 years. How fun was it watching Kenny “sky” walker as a freshmen knowing it was just the beginning. Really miss those days of basketball……

Good video. If you go watch those on the Louie B Nunn project you can watch the whole interview from start to finish. This one here is the edited down version made for TV. I'm just saying in case anyone doesn't know this already. Alot of interesting shit gets left out of these.

I never cared for Bowie on the Radio with Ralph Hacker.. they were terrible I thought. Just my opinion. His playing days where just around same time that I was being thought of 😂 so I didn't see those live either. Born while he was at UK though.

I just know his story as we all probably do and I always just feel real sorry for Sam Bowie anytime I see that name or think of him! I Couldn't imagine having to go through my whole life and be mocked and just a big ass joke worldwide all over something you did not even have anything to do with or able to do anything about except for just take it because ain't shit you can do to change it or fix it and ppl take some shit too far.

I was going to UK those years, saw Sam in the cafeteria once, his knees seemed like they were 2 feet above the table top. Then bumped into Turp walking down the hall. Had to because he took up the whole hallway! :)

Bowie was the 1st UK Super Star when I started watching them.

No way we lose the Dream Game with a healthy Sam.

I remember his nickname coming out of high school was "Sudden Sam". I suppose it was because of his unusual quickness for a big man. So glad we can count him as one of our own.

I was at UK during that '83-'84 Final 4 season. Used to see big Sam 2/3 times a week (T-Th or M-W-F) as we had class in the same building. I still remember Sam on the "porch" of the building w/ 2/3 dozen fans/students just hanging around him. Very personable.

Also, partied w/ Sky and Bennet at the Kappa Sig house a couple of times. Seeing Kenny "break dancing" (isn't that what it's called where they would spend a lot of time on floor?) was hilarious. Left from one of the parties w/ Bennet and a couple of girls one night to walk them back to the towers. Thought I was about to get super lucky until it dawned no me that the hot blond had been claimed by Winston and I was targeted for the chunky sidekick.

Still my all-time favorite UK bball player . I remember his recruitment and called long distance from Ohio to the Herald-Leader to get updates . Drove 300 miles to see him at Rupp in the 1979 McDonalds AA game . Back in those days , the lobby of the Hyatt would be shoulder-to-shoulder before the games . Sam's dad was among the crowd and his head rose high above the masses and looked like a giraffe towering over a herd on the Serengeti . Was among the first 7footers to shoot regularly from 18 feet and beyond. A class act who has handled adversity with dignity and understands and appreciates just what UK bball means

Great watch. And just a good example to those who insist we need every KY boy we can get, because they are the only ones who "get it" and "love UK", that NO lots of other players "get it" and "love UK" too. Bowie (PA), Kenny Walker (GA), Chuck Hayes (CA) just to name a few.

I got to FaceTime with Sam on my 71st birthday. Was a very big honor for me since Sam is my all time favorite player.

We owned trotter horses with Sam and Cotton when I was a kid. Always such a nice dude and I remember the 7 year old version of myself feeling like I was talking to a 100 foot redwood tree every time I was around him.
