Forget about denial. Sounds like he's just lying.
When you know there is no punishment coming, there is no repercussions for not telling the truth.
Heard John Feinstein on SiriusXM this morning. First, is he not insufferable? I don't mean because he doesn't like UK. Most media guys that are unpopular here are disliked because they don't care for Kentucky or Cal, or are perceived that way. Feinstein is just arrogant, a name dropper, a hard to like person. Anyway, he went on for some time about how much he likes Roy - and he does, I've heard him say it before. Then he ripped into Roy and UNC pretty good - apparently Roy referenced the "innuendo" surrounding this scandal, and Feinstein rightly pointed out there's nothing implied or vague about it. We're talking about facts here. He said the NYTimes has a good piece with a timeline of facts not in dispute.
So, the media at large isn't banging this drum like they should. But they're not getting off scott free....

Well, Feinstein is beyond insufferable, but you also have to remember he's a Dukie.
I don't buy that a minute that the women's basketball team attended class while the men'should team did not.
He is just repeating what tge ncaa has told him to say. He was a crook at kansas and is even worse at nc. He will never be punished. Just like dean smith.

Roy Williams is a liar if he said that. Plays the ol' aw shucks stuff, but he's as dirty as they come.
Roy brought in I think the key guy with him from KU, the one that has shut up and by most accounts was paid off not to talk. Can't remember the guy's name but he was doing same thing at Kansas with Roy, a learned deal with ol Deano.

NCAA knows they need to save some face. UNC knows they must take their lumps sooner or later. Droopy Dog knows he better get while the getting is good. All parties want immunity for Dean and MJ.
So in exchange for going without a lot of fuss, Roy gets a third. Down the road if brought before congress he will be able to pull a Jeffery Skilling "everything was daggum okay when I left...".
UNC in exchange for the protection of most if not all titles and keeping their legacy intact without too many asterisks will "self investigate" and offer up a tutor, low level AD admin, and cut scholarships for the golf program.
NCAA gets to play Billy Big Dick and look like their mere presence is forcing the hand of UNC to nudge Roy out, push some folks on to the sword, and self sanction. If they feel like the gig hasn't quite convinced people, they may look at a post season ban for a year, and scapegoat some "rogue" professor who's due for his sabbatical or looking to retire anyway.

If none of it is true, then why spend a Gazillion Dollars defending it.

They deserve Syracuse+Louisville level punishment and its not even close and those athletes need to come back to school and get educated the 2nd time around.
