One thing I like about Stoops over the year....moves kids and develops them to best position for them to get on field

- Dinkins moving to NG one I didn't see coming. I assume this is a long term view as Hayes/Rogers have it locked down now.
- Dingle to FB...a position we didn't have until Scangerello got here. He was never going to play Jack and we have way better DE talent. Maybe he gets us meaningful snaps
- We're back to true 3-4 look....no more playing safety in that 3-3-5 look with Davonte Robinson starting. Weaver/Wright will be our edge defenders in base package. I wonder if we'll move Trevin Wallace around to Sam....too talented to not get on field more
- Vito Tisdale getting looks at CB....personally I dont' see him as legit SEC CB....and he plays with his hair on fire...I like him in middle of field and letting him impact all over the place. But we'll see if this one holds
- Cox to Center...we all saw that coming. And this almost guarantees Manning will start at a guard spot

Tisdale at CB now doesn't make me feel all warm & fuzzy inside right now, that means they don't see a lot of good options in the portal right now, but that could change because a lot of transfers could happen after spring practice

I am assuming the Tisdale to corner is just an experiment. The body count at corner is down and Tisdale has the nickel down so they can afford the experiment. I believe he will be back at nickel in the fall. The move of Dinkins is really unexpected. Not really sure what to make of that one at the moment. Is that something being done to create a certain package?

Weaver and Wright are two of our best 11. If we keep both of them at JACK then I agree that Wallace should move to Sam, as he is one of our best 11. Not to mention we already have Jones, Square and Jackson at ILB.

Just cause Vito is at corner don't mean we can't find any in the portal.

We can't go through 15 spring practices with 10 defenders & a sign at CB spot saying "to be filled by portal in June". Cross training will be good to help him develop his skills beyond just being a thumper.

According to UK website, Justice Dingle is listed as FB, the one
who played DL at Georgia Tech. Possibly Dinkins is getting a look at NT for obvious pass plays like Paschal last year.

If we're going to play zone again, Tisdale at CB will be fine. Great instinct and really drives on the ball. Just needs to channel his emotions better.

It will also help us play all our lbrs enough snaps, by staying more in base.

Personally not a huge zone fan but it will help keep everyone's snap count at acceptable levels. Downside is it will continue to make cb recruiting tough because kids probably want to play in man schemes

Yeah just worry that Vito has the discipline to play corner without too much gambling and too much contact. Cant afford a PI evey other third down.

We almost always play Cover 3 Zone....

But regardless...you can't just line up anybody at CB....you have to drive on slants, out patterns, etc...and that requires fluid hips to change direction. I'm not sold a bit Vito is a CB in any scheme.

Stoops & therefore White are zone defense guys. They believe the best way to go is force offenses to go underneath & completely eliminate big plays over the top. Listen to them both talk after games, number of plays over 20 yds will be one of the 1st key stats they will bring up in evaluating how the D performed.

NFL doesn't hold this scheme against UK, secondary has been drafted more than any other position under Stoops, so recruits shouldn't either. Plenty of opportunities to break on balls from your zone position, ask Mike Edwards.

Don't know the direction...but Mike Edwards played safety and moved to slot cover in nickel packages.....he never lined up as a true CB like we are suggesting Vito Tisdale do. I just don't see the notion we can just move people to CB vs. Safety spots as we just play zone schemes....you still need to be the right type of athlete that is more suted for safety (tackling, cover TE and cover spaces middle of field)....vs CBs (less tackle support, cover quicker wide outs, etc..).

Vito is a heck of an athlete. I don’t know if he can play CB, but I’m not gonna doubt him. Coaches don’t know if he can plan CB yet. He has to be on the field for a few reasons.

Can he play CB better than Valentine? Probably.

Let's look at cbs. Last two corners drafted (bossman and schools) were man corners. Lonnie Johnson before that and he was a man corner. Westry made a team too from that same year, running man.

Last year we had immediate pt at CB and couldn't get anyone. Same this year....so far. Top CB's want to play man so they can display their skills. Jmo

Valentin was targeted a lot last year. He was the youngest of our experienced secondary and smart coaches should have went after him. I think he will show significant improvement in the coming year and he actually grew a lot in the position last year. I know he was easy to pick on last year but he will be more physically ready this year; he definitely understands his role and will mature greatly with what he experienced last year. JMO.🤫

Uk has been mainly a zone corner team at Ky…Lonnie Westry Joseph etc played 90 percent of the time in zone coverage at UK

UGA Bama Ohio st play mainly zone schemes as well. I think we’re watching different games

LSU has the most coveted CBS in college, year in and out. It's because they play man and kids want to go there.

That UK team didn't play zone 90% of the time. They even let Edwards play nickel to showcase coverage and enhance his draft stock.

Personally I'm fine with playing zone but it will make cb recruiting tougher. It just will.

I don't get where you are coming from. The NFL is a zone heavy league. I read somewhere that Cover 3 specifically is used 46% of the time. That's a lot of usage in the cover that we use. I don't think being zone heavy is hurting us at all. We're still very attractive to recruits.

Maybe it isn't hurting us. What I do know though is we had a starting CB spot last year and couldn't fill it. We have one this year too and can't fill it....yet. Two years ago we sold bossman and echols on coming in letting them play man.

I also know we have a logjam at MLB, 2 Jack's, and we have 3 safeties that all need on the field because they're key players. So we're playing zone this year almost surely.

You won't see a lot of man coverage until we can consistently get pressure on the QB.

Would love if UK employs a FB the way 49ers do w K Juszczyk.....its only a couple plays a game but usually catches the defense off guard when they do

Go watch 2018 tape, we zoned even with Josh Allen terrorizing LTs & QBs.

UK is far from being alone with this defensive approach. Modern CFB offense is a spread passing game. Passing so much more efficient; run the ball might get you 5, might get -1, might get a holding penalty & -10.

In response more & more defenses are just dropping 8 & saying I'll take our chances you screw up & throw an INT, or we will stiffen & hold to a field goal once you get inside the 20.

Yep, just saying you won't see a lot of man if QBs have slot of time to throw

Yeah I see . Just seemed more likely a tight end would be moving to nose guard instead of a defensive lineman. That’s what threw me off .
Kind of tells me he lacks the get off to play on the DLine. He was recruited at DE out of high school then moved to Tackle. Evidently finding a spot for him to get some clock.

Somehow, that seems unintuitive.

Picture DT’s like Dewayne Robertson and Myron Pryor moving to nose guard.

Not too hard to see.

Now try to envision Jacob Tamme, or any other TE at Nose . . . .

I have totally butchered this thread and I promise I haven’t been drinking, lol . I should have said FULLBACK . I’ll edit it.
