"The other 14 players on [Dallas's] roster evenly divided $208,940, which is awarded to teams that lose in the first round of the playoffs. ...

"The players did not vote to exclude Rondo, the source said. They were simply presented with a list that did not include him, and there were no objections."

Has anybody ever heard of something like this happening before? How weird.

I love Rondo but...geez. :b

He didn't deserve a dime. Hell, he honestly should have had to pay them for that tank job.

Sounds awfully severe but Rondo has won very few friends wherever he has been,

I doubt Rondo will miss what amounts to $14,000 as his share of the bonus. I guess he could sue them on the principal, but he would stand to lose even if he won.

Did anyone actually watch game one? And is Rondo actually hurt?

These are the only questions a judge needs to ask. He should sue. I hope he does.

No. It was "announced" it was all a front to save face as Rondo and the franchise mutually agreed to part ways.

I wouldn't want Rondo close to any team that I cheer for. When you fail to get the ball beyond half court while not even being pressured, there isn't anything left to say about the player.

If you quit on your team in the playoffs you deserve to get cut out of the playoff loot. Got no problem with it.

I remember the Pacers doing it to Pooh Richardson once back in the 90s.

And that was a similar story. Richardson had been acting like a whiny ass, feuding with Larry Brown, basically quit on the team in the playoffs, so the team voted not to give him his share of the playoff money.

I don't follow the NBA. What is going on with Rondo, anyway?

In a nutshell: back in December, the Celtics traded him to the Mavs for players and a few draft picks. He missed some games due to injuries and was suspended briefly for fighting with Dallas's coach. And then he got benched and shut down for the Mavs' first-round playoff series (which the Mavs lost). Rondo says that he was hurt; others are speculating that he quit. Either way, since he's a free agent after this season, he won't be returning to Dallas.

He still averaged 12.8 assists per 48 minutes (5th in the league) in 68 games this season, so he'll probably land at a competitor. Maybe the Lakers.

Lakers are not a competitor at jack, but you are probably right. I hate that the Lakers are going to waste money on Rondo.

Rondo was paid $12.9 million this year. So I doubt he is going to miss any meals over the playoff money snub.

One of the local D/FW sportswriters summed Rondo up pretty well I thought, "50% distraction, 50% misunderstood, 100% disposable."

Meanwhile Dirk Nowitzki today came out and said he would be willing to come off the bench if the Mavs can sign LaMarcus Aldridge (didn't name him, but everyone knows what's up) in free agency. Dirk is the 7th leading scorer in NBA history and played for $9 million this season when he easily could have demanded $20+ million, and gotten it, from the Mavs. He averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds in this years' playoff series loss to Houston. Dirk and Rondo are at the opposite extremes of good teammate/bad teammate.

.

But what he will miss is that he just threw away any chance he had for a max or even near max deal this offseason. Rondo just let his attitude cost him millions. Also cost him a shot with a contender you'd have to think. Who wants to bring him in to destroy the chemistry of a good team?

Yep, I wouldn't want him on my team even if he played for the league minimum.

I think LA is the best place for him. Kobe would keep him in check... Or they may come to blows...

But a line-up with Rondo, Kobe, Randle, and a top draft pick this year might make a few waves.

There is no speculation. It's a fact that the injury was to save face and the two mutually agreed to part ways.

This. Everyone I've seen comment on this, including the Mavs beat writer, unequivocally seem to agree that the "injury" statement was bullshit. Rondo was quite capable of still playing, but he wanted nothing more to do with the Mavs, and the Mavs wanted nothing more to do with Rondo and his attitude, so they just mutually agreed to part ways.
