Rob Childress out at Texas A&M

Childress had a decent stint at A&M. He did much better than what we’ve ever had and he gets canned after a poor season. Yet we’ll keep Mingione. Tells me everything you need to know about priorities at UK.
Very very well said , I ageee 100 percent

Nothing really concrete enough to pass along, tbh. Just feel like there might be a strange attitude around the program.
Come on Comebak, I know you know more than what you say. Have you heard something that leads you to believe a change is coming?

I'm at the point where I don't know how you keep Mingione. The writing is on the wall to me, but not everyone reads things the way I do... or at least the main guy making the decision might not. I don't have a source close enough to know what Barnhart is thinking.

So, most of my optimism is just off of my own hope. However, like I said, there kind of seems to be a different feel right now. That doesnt mean a change has been made or will be made. It could be a number of things bringing this about, but my hope is that it means what we want it to.

I'll give an example... the team has done a lot of team building stuff over the past 2 or 3 weeks. That's weird to me, but one can interpret that in a hundred different ways.

Maybe Mitch can use the "student athlete experience" as reason to get rid of Mingione, the way he did Billy Gillispie. From the rumors I've been hearing, Mingione is about as well thought of among the players as Gillispie was from his players. Mingione may have never force fed his players Pop Tarts or locked any of them in restroom stalls, but it certainly seems like he's done more than a few boneheaded things that have pissed the guys off.

Weak recruiting and strange decisions on the field, what more is there? Kentucky should at least be in the upper echelon on a regular basis and it will take a guy that can not only be solid on the field and in the dugout but in recruiting also. And we all know that.

This is true and understated. He is despised.

Anybody see the story on ESPN about Childress where they interviewed one player and he broke down? The player said he not only develops you into a much better player but also prepares you for life after you leave. They put up comments from three other players and it is obvious he is loved by his players. They said pitching is his forte and he took his team to the World Series just four years ago. The ESPN guy said he was one of his favorite people in baseball. This guy would definitely be well liked by the players if we got him.

Since the first year of 19-11, win in NCAA regional, etc.

. . . Kentucky is 32-59 in SEC play, no idea what we are versus other P5 teams like Louisville, etc., but have to think it is not good, at all.

Hey I’d take Childress in a heartbeat. A&M has a ton of pressure on them to outdo Texas. Mitch doesn’t give a crap if Louisville whips our ass in any sport except basketball.

From what Mingione said on last week’s radio show, the team has always done team building stuff including eating at Mingione’s house. Covid limited that the past year. I’m not sure I bought what he was selling but I have no way of knowing one way or another. You probably can tell me about it.

I'm sure they do some, but to my knowledge they didn't do much before but now they have done numerous right at the end, and they aren't just cookouts.

Again, this could be innocent and it could be nothing. It could be trying to get the team together so they come back and maybe change their minds about the experience. It could be a desperate attempt in hopes they play better. All sorts of things. Still, it seems strange to me and just one of the things that has kind of changed here at the end.

From someone (not me) you'd be right.

I will also point out that last year was canceled and that really helps this record. A year in which we probably would have been brutally bad in the SEC. We won 7 conference games in 2019. I think it is fair to say we would have won no more than 7 in 2020, and might have won even less. So, if you just wanted to stretch that out and say we win 7 then you're looking at 39-82 (.322). Given that UK was very bad against TCU and UNCW, I don't have much optimism that it was going to get better and they were going to become more competitive in league play.

We can break it down by P5:

Texas Tech - 2-4
Boston College - 0-1
Louisville - 2-4
Indiana - 2-0
Michigan - 1-0
Texas Christian 0-3
UNC Wilmington - 0-3

I added UNC Wilmington because they are a perennial tournament team. You might be able to add in a couple more teams that were tournament contenders or went to the tournament, but that requires me to actually look up whether a team like Tennessee Tech went to the tournament in a year in which we played them, and I'm just not that willing to do that this morning.

7-15 (.318)

Last year the SEC was historic and UK would’ve been lucky to win even 2 games in conferance.
NCW came to KPP and took Mingiones manhood. It was a brutal beating and it wasn’t going to get any easier. Covid saved his job.

I’m not doubting what you’re saying, in fact I believe you; but how do you know this and can you elaborate more on what you know?
It's a message board. It's where most 'fans' go to vent frustration and speculate. Very few, if any, have any idea what's going on in the clubhouse.
