RIP Vida Blue....

When I was a kid I was a psuedo baseball historian as I studied the "1989 Baseball Encyclopedia" quite a bit (it's still in my office). I loved the stats from the 20's through the early 60's - primarily because I liked the ridiculous offensive numbers. But the blind spot I've always had was for the late 60's through the end of the mid 80's when I started following the game.

My point mentioning this is that you could have told me Vida Blue was a Negro League pitcher from the 30's and I would have believed you. I'd heard of him, but I had no idea he was part of those A's dynasty teams from the 70's. It was cool going through his stats today. What a great name, too. RIP Vida.

Went to see a Reds/Giants DH in the late 70s.

Jim Barr started game 1 for the Giants, can't remember who for the Reds... away, final was 2-1

Vida Blue vs Tom Seaver was the matchup for the second game..... final score ...... 9-8

Go figure!

He is now...
