Don’t you just love how government administrators waste tax and donation money. Louisville could have saved 2 million dollars by waiting another 15 days to fire Kenny. Kenny gets the axe now because the AD wants Kenny to get his money. They are friends. After all, it’s not coming out of his pocket. It’s the taxpayers and boosters flipping the bill. Elzy gets 2.7 million for dragging us in the gutter for a contract extension Mitch signed. It’s the good ole boy system at its finest. Nothing comes out of their pockets so here’s a little going away gift old buddy.

Once it was leaked Payne was being let go, UofL really had no choice. Payne would've gotten that $2 million with a quick lawsuit. It would've been obvious.

Bureaucrats love to spend OPM (other people's money).

Exactly how much has it cost you?

Let’s see… I’ve paid state taxes for around 52 years and spent about 20k on a degree at Louisville, local taxes when I lived there. I’m guessing 20 bucks of Kenny’s buyout is mine. I never get personal but what a silly take. Taxes are the peoples money. Unless you are one of the takers and not the payers. How much did it cost you.

Meh. Get your paper, people. Doesn't bother me. Good for them.

Don't like sports contracts and salaries? Stop supporting sports and wanting winning teams.
Exactly, soon as people stop paying 100k for box seats at the Super Bowl then this will stop, they even had all the suites booked at a million a piece. Ridiculous.

I’ll be more than happy to win 12 games for them for 2 million. Do they still have that pole handy?

Sign me up.

I know UK athletics does not receive any state funding and is 100% self funded through revenue they produce, so Elzy is not part of this conversation.

I believe UL Athletics is also self-funded.

I don’t think people realize how little of the university budget is from state money. A lot of state school get 10% or less of their total budget from state money.

You do know the money owed is from endorsements and not from her salary owed don't you?
Really. So the school could have saved 2 million for the endorsement people??? I’m not buying it. What company is stupid enough to let 15 days cost them 2 million. Only government is that stupid. Someone IS PAYING THAT EXTRA 2Million.

Nope. Not UL.

I don’t understand why you wait until the season is over unless you’re waiting for April 1st. It’s a very U of L athletics thing to do.

So, you're just guessing. But, do you actually know his buyout money is paid with tax dollars? Or are you also just guessing that? You do realize after expenses, Louisville atheltics made around 10 million in profits just last year. And they have been one of the higher generating atheltic departments for years. So, why would they need to use tax dollars for such a limited amount?

Haven’t seen anything that he has been fired immediately. Just that he won’t be the coach next year.

Money doesn’t grow on trees. Businesses are smart or bankrupt. Governments are the only entity who spends without impunity. I know no one smart has that money coming out of their pockets. It’s not just a UL thing. It’s our whole country. Let’s pack another 20 million on top of Kenny’s buyout for Ukraine, Gaza and southern immigration.
Note: I filed my taxes this week. As you can tell, I ain’t gettin a MF refund. Checks on the way to Uncle Sam and The Commonwealth of Ky. Pissed, but proud American.

Lol, so, are you ever going to be able to explain for us how you contributed to Kenny's buyout, or are you just going to keep rehashing talking points?

If you're going to be upset about something, at least know why you're upset about it.

What is the amount they get from state funding? And how much of that goes to coaches salaries vs sponsorship and endorsement money?
Uk got 298 million. I’m looking at UL now. You guys don’t get the point it’s coming out of someone’s pocket when they wait 15 days and it goes down. You don’t think that’s stupid I’m not bothering to look up UL because you just want to argue. I do know UL gets a lot more than UK. Goodbye. BTW. It’s a quick google

While UK got $298 million, the athletic department got $0. They are self funded. They use $0 from state funding, student fees, etc.

I’m not arguing. I’m genuinely curious how much UL Athletics gets (if anything) from the university/state funds/student fees.

The quick google search is money that supports the university, none of which goes to the athletic department.

Yes UK/UL are some of the top athletic departments. This whole thread was just about that it’s reported Kenny’s buyout goes down 2 million April 1st. How stupid is it to fire him now??? Only someone (government officials) would be that dumb because it’s not Their money. That’s all I was saying.

I agree that the university should have waited in the perfect world. Reports have come out that Nolan Smith was leaking stuff and they must have felt that they had to make the move now and have a leg up on getting a new coach.

As for the government employee thing (I work at a public university, so definitely have an opinion on that), while it might not be their personal money, it’s department funds that the AD needs to use within a defined budget that cannot be used elsewhere (facilities, recruiting, etc). It is 100% a hit to the department unless it’s being paid for by boosters.

Yep. Spend some time in Frankfort. That place caught the dumb ages ago.

Your tax dollars aren’t paying for any of this.

I worked at Toyota for 28 years. All departments received budgets. That’s where the fun comes in. Lol. Let me charge 100 hrs to you. You buy me a machine out of your machine budget, It was crazy what those managers did to make or hide money for their areas to look good. I suspect it’s worse at UK.
