Rex Chapman discussed the differences between Michael Jordan and LeBron James (good interview).

Would love to know how different the Jordan Era would have looked if Len Bias hadn't died. Bias didn't fear Jordan.
Not much if any. The Pistons and many teams didn’t fear him. They just knew he was better.

MJ is in a different category. Maybe Bias could’ve been sort of close like Kobe and Lebron, but they are all quite a bit below his level.

He could get a good shot off anytime he wanted. That’s one simple difference. Another is that he’s the best defender of all time.

Bias was going to be a Celtic. That's a pretty big thing to factor in.

Jordan played through hand checking, holding, and bumping on EVERY play.......plays that would cause Bronny to writhe on the floor while sobbing at the refs as the ball goes to the other end of the court.

Early on, maybe. But after he took the mantle from Bird/Magic as the face of the league he was protected like the Mona Lisa. I found it disgusting

I don't think there's ever been a more fiercer competitor than Jordan, but that came with being a bit of a D__K. I remember one of the guys he played with said he could crush your confidence and get you bounced out of the league with the way he would rag on players that weren't his favorite. And there was his huge gambling addiction. Off the court Jordan still was all about Jordan. Off the court James has given back a ton to charity and put his childhood friends running his businesses.

If Bias lives all of history changes. We'll never know how. Maybe the Celtics push back the Pistons title years or prevents them. Maybe each draft is altered and the Bulls don't get Pippen.

LeBron, one of the greatest specimens to ever play the game, used that strength for countless points at the rim. He should get major credit for being built like a brick sh*thouse and using that to his advantage.

But Jordans skill level (kobe too) was on its own planet.
I find it funny that some of the same people who say LeBron is the GOAT and discount his physical advantage also are the first ones to say Wilt Chamberlain can't be considered the GOAT because he was physically dominant during his playing time. You can't have it both ways.

Jordan was heartless when he stepped on the court. I heard Brad Daugherty say on the NASCAR broadcast last week that they were playing the Bulls in the playoffs and Brad had injured his hand. He said Jordan came up to him before the game and asked how his hand was. He told him it was fine. The first play of the game they threw the ball to Brad in the post and Jordan came down on a double team and hacked him right across his injured hand just to see if it was fine and they were good friends. 🤣

Where’s the discount? He’s the most well built NBA player of all time. He used it to his advantage. He’s amazing.

He isn’t as skilled as MJ or Kobe.

I was talking about others who don't acknowledge he's accomplished what he has because of being physically dominant more than being the most skilled but then discount Wilt's accomplishment. I was agreeing with you not saying you are the one who said it.

Mike was better but Kobe is as close as a player will be to MJ IMO. He was practically a clone, played like him, athletic like him, same jumper, great defender, and same size.

That is 100% accurate. If you add in modern rules Jordan wouldn’t have needed 20 years to reach Lebron’s scoring level. He would have been close to 40ppg easily most of his career. Defenders would have had a lot more tools to slow LeBron down. He still would be dominate but without a solid 3 early in his career he was easier to contain.

I’m sure Jordan has donated tons of money over the years. I commend Bron for staying true to his childhood friends though. Most do that for tax purposes. When yours a billionaire it’s almost required to save money.

I will only push back on the jumper part slightly. Mike could stop on a dime and elevate higher and faster.

Kobe (rip) was maybe a better overall shooter slightly. He also made many very tough and contested shots regularly. MJ’s ability was to get off a good shot and there often wasn’t as much of a chance to contest.

Lebron jumped from High School to the NBA. He also has won some championships.

Michael did some pretty prolific things as a high school and college and NBA player.

High School he did not make varsity one year, makes the winning shot in the ncaa tourney, and won many championships with the Bulls.

It's easy to see Jordan as the winner, he has made a lot of impact on the game.

The difference is one says he’s one of the best but when the game was on the line, he took control with the game on the line over and over again to win championships. The other calls himself the greatest, but doesn’t want to take over with the game on the line, and jumped to teams with multiple All-Stars to win his championships.
