I remember that. PJ Carlesimo supposedly accepted the job and then at the last minute the deal fell through. Don't remember the details beyond that.
It was Gene Bartow and Lute Olson before Sutton in case anyone is curious.
We almost never get our first choice. We first pursued Lute Olsen and Gene Bartow in 85, PJ Carlesimo and Lute Olsen (again) in 89, Billy Donovan in both 07 and 09, etc.

Sutton was a good hire had drinking issues but people forget Roger harden and sky walker came really close at winning it all his first year and that recruiting class he had coming in before the emery ordeal was unbelievable
