I just read a brief article about Claiborne's time coaching UK football. In 1982 he returned to a UK program that was under sanctions. That year his team went 0-10-1---not a single win. In one season the team bagan a turn-around, 6-5-1 and a trip to the Hall of Fame Classic Bowl. In his 3rd season, 1984, the team had a 9-3 record and won in a return trio to the same bowl game.
He was the SEC COY in 1983 and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999. What he did for our wounded football program was very similar to what Rick did for basketball. We owe him.
P.S. I noticed a pic of a young Rob Bromley interviewing Claiborne in what looks to be about 30 yrs ago.![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
