Young hot shot DC at Miss St a few years ago who was thought to be a real up and comer. Went to Texas as their DC a few seasons ago then got caught up in the whole Mack Brown cluster thing, was even thought of as Brown's replacement at one time. Anyway, he's not retained when Strong takes over and spends '14 at La Tech. Has now been rehired at Miss St, a good move by them.

Meanwhile, LSU's fans are in a funk. Muschamp goes to Auburn, Chavis bolts to A&M and now another SECW foe hires the highly regarded Diaz. Meanwhile, the Tigers................

Wonder what all the fair weather fans bemoaning UK's coaching hires as compared to other schools grabbing former head coaches or big names to be their DC's think of this decision

good hire by them, I also am inclined to say his flameout at Tejas was due to the whole downward trend of that program

I guess it's a good year to be looking for a DC. UK hasn't been in that market.

Like it or not MOST coaches who become hot names are often the beneficiaries of good timing. Ever wonder what Hal Mumme's legacy would be if not for Tim Couch? What would have happened with Guy Morriss if not for Artose Pinner? Does Baylor come calling and offer him a huge contract?

Diaz had a couple of good years at MTSU and Miss St before going to Texas...there his defenses were pretty miserable. Their 2012 is on record as the worst defense ever at Texas. In 2013 after UT gave up 550 yds to BYU, the most ever allowed by Texas and he was removed from his DC position. You can't say there wasn't talent. In the 4 years prior to Diaz being dismissed Texas' recruiting classes were ranked 5th, 3rd, 3rd, 2nd. I'd be cautious about proclaiming it a great hire.
Did Diaz get hung up in "the whole Mack Brown cluster thing" or was he part of the cause???

^fuzz, nowhere did I proclaim Diaz as being a "great hire." It is a good hire for a program trying to raise their product to a higher level because he has some experience. He's not in the same class as many others just yet, may never be.

I don't know what the problem is with the Texas football program but if a coaching staff can not recruit and have a great program there they are going to struggle having a winning program anywhere.

I don't however think all of the problems at the University Of Texas are entirely with the coaching Staff. I think it goes much deeper than that. I think there is problems in the athletic office and the fan base is way too involved in running of the football program.

I thought Diaz was at Miss ST once before..Some recruiting violations waylaid him...I could be wrong..Getting old

I think part of the problem is some of the Texas boosters have more money than some small states and want to have too much input into the football program, such as who is a starter.

Yep I think it involved Will Redmond a safety? from Memphis and magically getting a new Mustang from a MSU boosters lot after committing to the people's university of mississippi, as they say hail state....(the commie comrades of the sec.)
