I was looking over draft boards, killing time, and came across a brief write-up on Terrance Ferguson who is playing in Australia since he could not make it in the NCAA.

Here is what the writer wrote.

30. Utah: Terrance Ferguson
Shooting Guard / 6-7 / Adelaide 36ers (Australia) / 1998
4.6 ppg, 1.1 rpg

Ferguson is all over the place on draft boards, and while his thin body and ability to create remain concerns, his shooting and defense give him a lot of intrigue. Teams will likely look for as much high-school footage as possible to accurately gauge his ability against solid competition. While his outside shooting was on display at the Nike Hoop Summit as he hit seven threes in the span of a few minutes. But concerns about maturity continue to surround him. Interviews and workouts are sure to factor heavily in his draft position.

So basically, the Australian pro league is so bad, scouts would rather compare a player against high schoolers rather than other pros.

Hump can certainly play back home.

That's laughable. If the guy can only manage 4.6 in that league how is it easier than HS where he was tearing it up? Go ahead and scout his HS tapes, that won't change how poor his numbers are now.

I guess it's worth considering his minutes, but again if he was really good why wouldn't he be getting more? If minutes are even the issue....

Although he could only manage 4.6 ppg in that bad Australian league.
Bingo.

OP is totally misreading that. Australian pro teams are PROFESSIONAL. They'll take a flyer on some 19 year old with big potential, but they aren't going to play him unless he earns it, especially not when they know he's leaving in a year. Brandon Jennings didn't do squat in Italy, and Ricky Rubio was never any kind of stud in Spain.

The Australian league is nowhere near as good as those in Spain and Italy, but it's still a big step up from HS basketball. Looking at their stats page, I see names like Bryce Cotton, Casey Prather, Josh Boone, and Rotnei Clarke among the league leaders. Clearly a notch above HS.

Hump could go home, make about 100K for a short season, and see what's out there for him. His call, and honestly, if he doesn't want to compete with guys like Richards and (hopefully) Bamba for PT, can you blame him?

That league is actually not bad, did you play in t or you just guessing based on nothing? I've had teammates play there
In his defense any league in the scope of the NBA is a bad league

Fwiw I think T ferg can ball

Off base comment. You know what I meant.
Hawk and Willis are from Ky can go home fairly easily. Humphries is from Australia, if he comes back great, but I won't blame a kid moving back home to Australia making 100k a year.

Humphreys needs to get evaluated by a psychiatrist before I want him back on the team. Clearly he is having delusions, hope he gets the help he needs before returning.

You just don't get it do ya? Hump from no where in the last game of the season. Everyone else is gone except him. This is a door of opportunity.

An opportunity to sit behind Bamba and Richards? Possibly SKJ PJ JV

Just like Hawk sat behind Fox and Monk.
Did you watch the same team I did? Of course he sat behind Fox Monk and briscoe. And maybe hump has NBA aspirations, something hawk has 0 shot at. There's not that many ppl that want to sit the bench the first 3 years just to play 6th man as a Sr. Actually very few players want to do that.

If ya a BB player, you want to get better. You get better with practice. Practice against the best can only show you where you need work. That is why you play.
So why didn't hawk and Willis play earlier in their career? Oh yeah they sat behind talented freshman that hadn't even practiced at U.K. Yet. Just because you practice hard doesn't get you PT, hence the term practice player

I understood this as scouts not being able to get Aussie league footage.

I have a hard time believing US HS is better than the Aussie league.

Hawk will make some NBA money somewhere, even it is a short time.
I'll wager Hawk never makes an NBA team roster. Not a Dleague roster a real NBA team. Euro bound and nothing's wrong with that. Willis has a better shot at NBA

The last game of the year, who got minutes to play?

Your right about Willis, but Hawk could be a different kind of Ulis. We all know what was said about prior to that young mans career in the NBA.

or, alternatively, you don't know anything about basketball

you think rashad mccants was a better player than kenny smith. not even going to bring up the take so bad that even you refuse to own it

hawkins is a 6' guard who doesn't handle the ball all that well

he'd have a better chance of playing in the nfl if he chose to go that route IMO

hawkins almost never turned the ball over, because he played within himself

started making shots at the end, too. it was great. if it wasn't for higgins, he'd be up there with mills and darius miller

but a 6' guard in the nba has to make plays with the ball

Hawkins has zero chance to ever play in the NBA or DL even . He could play overseas and make bank though. Hump hopefully comes back as he is a talented player but still very young. remember he is just now the age of most normal freshmen since he left school early to come to UK.

since tommy lee jones brought it up, hawkins had 35 career turnovers

18 in 731 minutes as a senior, against 30 steals
