I expected better than 40 percent shooting from behind the arc, but as pointed out he was heavily guarded.

“This kid is not only one of the top shooters in the country, but he can also do a lot of other things on the offensive end. And then he has the size to defend. He can defend multiple positions.” Sheppard averaged 25.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game during the regular season while leading North Laurel to a 23-5 record and favorite status in the upcoming 13th Region Tournament. He also shot 38.0 percent from three-point range despite being the focal point of opposing defenses and facing constant double- and triple-teams. Sheppard shot 89.3 percent from the free throw line during the season.

Well, 40 % is damn good.

I've seen the kid play several times this year and he is CONSTANTLY moving on both ends. He NEVER takes a play off. He can go right or left equally strong and although he's right handed, he actually is a stronger driver going left. He can score from anywhere on the floor and is a fantastic passer. He can defend the 1 through 4 spots and has great lateral quickness. And everyone has seen his leaping ability.

He is just a Jr, so I look for him to be a superstar at UK.

Yes, taking better shots. I imagine he feels like he at least sometimes has to force shots to carry the load for his team. And a major school, they only want you to take good Open shots.

I don't know about "superstar". I mean those only come around so often. And we have a loaded roster almost every year. But I do think he will be a very good player.
My prediction is something like:
FR: 8-12mpg, 4-5pts
Soph: 20-24mpg, 9-12pts, 2-3 ast
Jr: 26-30mpg, 13-16pts, 3-4 ast (decision to make)

Reed is forced to take some bad shots in their bigger games. Talent isn’t great around him, one player that is a top 10 talent in the region then everyone else are just spot up shooters. He’s doubled almost every trip down the floor. The 3pt% is actually better than what I thought it would be considering he almost never has time to spot up for his 3pt attempts. Most are off the dribble

I get what you are saying cause Lamb was one of my favorites but until someone makes as many big shots as A Aron. I gotta go with him.
Off the top of my head, I remember Aaron hitting three game winners, Knight against both Princeton AND OSU in the same tournament. Padgett hit one in the tournament in 1998 against KU to go to OT, and of course Herro in 2018 against Wofford (?).

Yeah, he won't be getting double/triple teamed at UK.

Yes but, I think there's more pressure on college players and particularly UK players to make shots,For instance I think tyty shot better in high school where being the king of your HS team can build confidence. I do value FT percentage as an indicator of a good shooter and Reed is good to go there.

For those who didn’t get to watch, Reed had 37 bringing home the 13th region title. 13/24 shooting and 11 assists

DK, they basically all shoot better in college eventually - most significantly better as upperclassmen - even if the percentages might start out lower. The shooting percentage generally starts out significantly lower due to a much different game (speed, size, athleticism).

TyTy has a really really good mid range game. I'm surprised at his 3pt numbers though. Thought they would have been much better.

He has definitely struggled with that shot.

33% on the year.

He is 11/43, 25% since New Year.

He was 19/46, 41% before New Year.

The LSU game was on 1/4, that was when he first got hurt. Really hoping he gets that shot back!

Travis Ford for me. If he was open, you knew it was going in.
You might wanna reconsider that. Ford junior season with Mash still around drawing all the attention. Shot 53 percent from 3. Incredible.
But Ford Senior season shot 38 percent from 3. Without Mash.
Mash made Ford at UK. Now I give him credit for hitting 53 percent. But nearly every one of those nobody was around him.

I said if he was open, he didn't miss. Reread my post.

Mash made him. Ford was and is a POS. Many UK players could have hit 53 % or higher with Mash being triple teamed.
Credit for the 53% but he is still a sorry human being.

He will be wide open a lot more at UK, depending on who he has as teammates each year. I am sure he will shoot 38% or higher from 3 every year here.

Oh no. Don’t start in already. These Ky instate kids sure get the extra scrutiny. Just a Jr and 38%. Don’t make it miserable for him.

All I know is I got sat right beside Travis on a small plane from Atlanta to Lex and I asked him a couple of questions and got cold crickets as a response. I once sat on a plane next to Tubby and we had a good talk. He even told me Azibuke had a big head from playing in too many Highschool all star games.

I mean there is a reason he shot that and it is because he got open looks. That is another reason Lamb shot so well at UK as he played with some studs, especially in 2011-2012. It was a pick your poison defense for most teams and it never really worked out.

There are a lot of terrible human beings that play sports and do well at various levels of competition. It really has nothing to do with his ability to hit 3 pointers though.

Yeah, but its also harder to get open in college. That's why Allen doesn't play much, other than the fact he can't defend a tree stump
