Rece Davis replacing Chris Fowler on College Gameday.

I guess that's as good a choice as any. But man,I liked Fowler. Corso is slipping. Not sure how much longer that show will be as good. Well, all things have a shelf life.

I think its a long run to have all of the original people for 25 years. You could sense the change coming over the last few years though with Rece Davis traveling with May and Holtz to certain spots as well and with him doing basketball's gameday. This was the logical choice and David Pollack is the logical choice when Corso steps away. ESPN is transitioning this show very well.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Where is Fowler going? If Joey Galloway replaces the Sunshine Scooter I will never watch that show again!

I agree that Rece and Chris are really similar. Pollack is also a good call to replace Corso. No way that ESPN can have both Herbie and Galloway on Gameday. It would be way too much OSU on stage.

too bad we cant get away from Mark May and Granny Holtz.
Holtz retired after this season so he'll be replaced by another coach im sure.

Once Corso retires I think he'll be replaced by a coach and a coach only. You have to keep the same model. You need that coaching perspective on the show.

I disagree with those saying that Davis and Fowler are basically the same. I think Fowler comes across as more professional and just better at what he does. Davis is fine but he is more JV to me. Maybe it's those ridiculous skits he does with Holtz and May where he is the judge while Holtz and May play attorney's. It makes me take him less serious.

The same can be said of the fact that Davis hosts Gameday for basketball. That show comes across like a much lesser version of football Gameday. Maybe Davis does just fine but I will miss Fowler a great deal and I am not sure the show will have th same feel.

IMO, Fowler is much better as a studio host than as a play by play guy. The great play by play guys (Keith Jackson comes to mind) bring a style to their work that is immediately recognizable. Fowler is very vanilla. That works fine in the studio, where general likeability is more important.

Agreed. Fowler does a great job as host of Gameday and though he is not bad on the game broadcasts, I don't feel like he is great. There are certain voices that you hear and you know it's a big game. Keith Jackson is a great example and I think having had Verne Lundquist doing the SEC games on CBS for a some time now, whe you hear his voice you think "big game". I think on ESPN's broadcasts Brad Nessler is that guy. I think he and Blackledge are a great combo and when I hear their voices, I find myself immediately interested in that game.

I'm not a big fan of the Fowler Herbstreit combo. The volume of Fowler's voice and his excitability on big plays overpowers Herbstreit who sounds soft and dull next to him. Never really been a fan of Herbstreit really because he just sounds kind of whiny sometimes.
