Rebs at Cats (Saturday)

Have to say... I strongly dislike how we manage lineups. Ritter and Jump bounce back and forth. Felker in and then he's put again. Church hasn't played in practically a month and only has 8 ABs on the year, this will be his second start. Rubalcaba never gets a rest.

The time to play around is in the OOC, not now.

Williams getting hit here early. Two singles sandwich a strikeout and a hit batter and have Ole Miss on the board. 1-0 with 1 out.

A walk and a pretty well hit sac fly scores another. I think Ole Miss runner at second made a mistake not tagging up and putting pressure on Williams and Rubalcaba to avoid the WP/PB.

Doesn't matter as first pitch is a chopper to Ritter. 2-0 Rebels

Junp reaches on a single to right and then I think he gets picked off. They'll take a review.

Edit: He was out.

Estep walked. Ritter then puts one past the diving short. Plastiak flies out to center and no one can advance. Wow UK got lucky as heck as Estep gets caught stealing and he's dead to rights but Ole Miss third baseman drops the tag. Everyone safe. They score it a SB. Lol

Rubalcaba draws a full count and does some battling. Draws a walk and a passed ball scores Estep. That looked funny, like it might have hit Rubalcaba, but Ole Miss didn't argue.

2-1

Fogel weakly grounds out to short to end the inning.

A bad inning for UK baserunning ends up being a bit positive. We're going to 2.

Williams settling in. Seems like Ole Miss hitters are swinging and bailing out of the box. Like they're falling away from their swings.

Going to bottom 2 still 2-1

Harris never looked comfortable and he strikes out.

Church takes one off the front foot.

Thrasher strikes out as well.

Jump with a 2 out double past the diving first baseman.

Bianco out for a chat.

Estep chopper to first and love his hustle as he dives into first but not before the Ole Miss pitcher steps on the bag.

2-1 going to 3

Ritter with another pretty strong grounder to short. This one, Gonzalez is playing straight up and not in DP depth, so he's able to collect and throw out Ritter. Strong play going away from first.

Plastiak draws a full count, but looks at a bender that is called strike 3. Looked outside.

Zo pops out behind second.

2-1 going to 4

Thrasher bunts and reaches on a poor throw. Then the ball gets thrown away and he gets all the way to third. No outs.

Jump goes the other way and it's an out but it scores Thrasher. 2-2. New pitcher.

Maddox to pitch. He walks Estep.

Ritter then gets hit in the helmet. Didn't look like it hit him as it must have just grazed. Bianco back out.

Williams filling up the strike zone and working efficiently. Gets another 3 up 3 down.

Just another strong pitching performance when I least expect them.
Our starters/openers have absolutely kept us in these games against ranked, top-half SEC competition.
To not get any of these games would be a shame. C'mon Cats!

Fogel reaches on a single to left and Harris pops up a bunt for an out. Ugh. Fundamentals failed us there.

Church puts a good bat on one but right at Gonzalez.

Thrasher with a triple into the right field corner gives UK the lead 3-2

Ohh no. Williams coming out now. Has to be an injury. Trainer was out. Harper will take his spot.

Williams indicates it is his forearm that bothered him and not the elbow.

Radio is reporting the thumb cut

There was a bandaid on his thumb and some blood on his pants, but when he was in the dugout he kept pointing to his forearm and never seemed to point to the bandaid.

Gotta say, this is an impressive win. Some games you win because the other team can't throw strikes and they walk everyone. That's not today. We're hitting and on the flip side we've kept their excellent bats quiet.

I still say they play to their competition level. Nice win today. We need to wrap up the series tomorrow and take care of business during the mid week games.

HUGE game on Sunday. If we can win this series and add it to series win against UGA and TCU, then this is shaping up to be an NCAA tourney resume. Can never breathe in the SEC, but that's a loud start for a team that wasn't expected to do much.

I watched the game but was too tired from yard work to do any commenting during the game. I hate to say I kept waiting for something bad to happen and was pleasantly surprised when it didn't. I watched the softball game and they won the series convincingly with another come from behind win.
