Realistic Expectations Now?

The beauty of football is how the storyline changes week to week.

Week 1 we weren't sure if we had any WRs worth a damn and that our run game was one of the best in the nation. How'd that turn out?

Week 2 we hear AR15 is the Heisman frontrunner and Florida will win going away because Kentucky is too soft. Howdyhat turn out?

Mississippi State isn't getting any respect. They are rock solid this year. That game worries me.

Sucks Arkansas plays Alabama on the first. There goes the SEC on CBS game. Son of a Biden.

I disagree that MSU isn’t getting any respect. ESPN just had an article up yesterday showing the “16 teams with the highest percentage chance to make the CFP” and MSU was on it and Kentucky was not. If anything Kentucky should be the one with a bone to pick against MSU, particularly given the awful gameplan last year. Brad White will be ready this time.

Their not ranked and I believe they should be. To me that's disrespect. We'll see where they're at when we suit up

Win the whole F’in thing!
Anymore questions?

If Scott Drew can take the Baylor basketball program from absolutely nothing to NCAA champs, there is no reason Mark Stoops can’t do the same thing at Kentucky, given enough time and momentum. As others have said, If you are in the SEC title conversation then you are automatically in the national title conversation.

The worthless hoops analogy.

I think we lose two from here on out and finish in the Sugar Bowl with the best record of the modern era. Georgia and either UT or MS St. what say you?

All depends on how healthy we can be the rest of the season.

Beating Georgia is no longer a monumental task but is too far away to even contemplate right now. UT looks really dangerous. Ole Miss can still outscore people. MSU IS ALWAYS a tough victory to earn.

Georgia has the depth to be a brick wall come November, but if we get/stay healthy, I think we can run through it.

Ole Miss won't allow us to turn the ball over or miss scoring opportunities if we're going to win that game.

Same goes for UT and their defense is even better than Ole Miss. We need out defensive line to be disruptive and our DBs to play extremely well in this one.

Vanderbilt plays better against ranked opponents, and it IS a rivalry game. They will beat us if we overlook them.

MSU will beat us if we think we can just walk out there and get a vic. We will be getting everyone's best game from here on out, and this is when we see how well the foundation is built and how far along we truly are. I lean towards winning out in the regular season, but injuries can change that real quickly. I hope we are ready to have to go 3 deep some games.

I wouldn't call it an expectation but winning the SEC should be the goal. We are better on paper than everyone left on our schedule except for Georgia who we have at home.

Actually, on paper we are still not better than Ole Miss, UGA, or UT. Might be even with MSU. All of their recruiting rankings have still averaged higher than ours over the past 5 years. We're getting there, but we're not quote there on paper just yet.

I'm just glad this game is never played, won, or lost on paper. Heart and work ethic still play a HUUUGE role.

I want the Sugar Bowl.

We will paint New Orleans BLUE!!

Is the Sugar Bowl part of the playoff this year? I want the playoffs and the national championship this year. No sense hiding it. Until we somehow lose 2 games, I'm planning on the Cats playing 15 games.

I don't really want to go to New Orleans unless I'm driving a rental car and packing serious heat. Flat out dangerous right now. Maybe it settles down after the election...

Week 1 THE MEDIA GUYS weren't sure if we had any WRs worth a damn, ONLY that our run game was one of the best in the nation. How'd that turn out?

Week 2 THE MEDIA says AR15 is the Heisman frontrunner and Florida will win going away because Kentucky is too soft. Howdyhat turn out?

Mississippi State isn't getting any respect in THE MEDIA. They are rock solid this year. That game worries me.

FIXED IT.

This is going to be a gauntlet, no question. Home or away, these SEC games are all tough.

Imo, we lost to UGA and one of UT, MSU or Miss. At worst we lost 2 of those 3. At best we go 11 - 1.

Quit worrying about what other people are doing and just avoid threads that aren't of interest to you.
Disagree anyone looking for loses are not real fans my expectations are the same for football and basketball who do you expect them to lose too?

This is overly conservative, by a lot.

UT's defense is complete trash. They got fortunate that Pitt's star QB was knocked out of the game (on some uncalled late hits, tbh). They gave up 17 in the first half to an okay Pitt offense and it could've been a lot more. His backup couldn't throw a pass to save his life. Kentucky can score 45 on UT. Can UT's elite offense score 45 on Kentucky's elite defense? That's what the game comes down to - and they struggled scoring against a solid, but certainly not elite, Pitt defense. The Heupel gimmick is going to wear out.

Vandy doesn't have a prayer in hell of beating Kentucky. There's a monumental talent and coaching gap. Wake crushed them, and even poor pitiful Elon scored 31 on them. Come on, man.

Ole Miss might have a quarterback problem. Dart only looked 'okay' against a bad Troy team, to the point where Kiffin started Altmyer the next game (though Dart got most of the minutes). Their rushing attack is really, really good - but that plays into Kentucky's elite front seven, which is probably the second best in the conference behind Alabama. Ole Miss is dangerous, but I'd say Kentucky should win that game 7 out of 10 times. Our defense will be the best unit on the field by a wide margin, and I think our offense (healthy, with a functional O-Line and CRod back in the lineup) has the potential to be the second best unit on the field.

Lmao... "leaning toward winning out the regular season" is conservative is it? Gtfoh

Conservative or not, my comments stand.

By the time we play Vandy and UT they will be better teams and, again, will play their best games against us.

Ole Miss will find ways to score. UT will find ways to score. We can't turn the ball over and give them more opportunities and expect to bury them. Can we survive some turnovers and win? Sure. We will get their best games, though, because of our ranking at this point in the season alone.

We thought we arrived last year and lost 2 games we shouldn't have to teams with similar makeup. If you've seen my other posts, you'd know I think we can win out, but none of the SEC games will be easy. Thinking they will be is foolish, doesn't matter how "trash" someone might look this week or next. When you come to play against a ranked opponent, you elevate your game.

Still think we finish with 3 to 4 losses. October is going to tell a lot. We have Ole Miss, UT, S.Carolina and Miss. State. I hope we can go 3-1 during those games but it is more realistic we go 2-2 or possibly 1-3

Looks as if TN's gone back to the bounty system Phat had...so much skrilla to knock out the opponent's QB, so much for a WR, so much for a RB, etc.

Pretty sure the Ole Miss plan was to start Dart Game One, Altmyer Game Two. Watched Dart a few times last year on those late Sat games on PAC-Whatever Network while he was at USC. He's a really good athlete, good size/speed/arm but frequently tried to do too much. Figured Kiffin would rein him in. Anyway, that game's on the road and we all know the SEC road is a very dangerous place.

10-2 or better. We choked away 11-1 or 10-2 last season so want to see the team finish the job this season. Winning the east would be outstanding but uga is really tough. We have a shot though.

(Skip to end if you just want a prediction)

We’re ranked top 10 by the coaches and media for a reason, and we haven’t played anywhere near to our potential offensively.

We have:
—Elite talent at QB
—Mostly young and/or new players on offense (only 1 returning starter in the same position)
—Just 2 games in this new offense
—Our star RB back in 3 weeks

We have as much potential to improve offensively as anyone in the country. We are not limited by talent or coaching, only chemistry and experience which we are gaining. Our defense is talented and deep. I maintain the same position as before the season. We will go as far as Will Levis can take us.

We can lose to almost anyone if we have a bad game, but we should be favored against all of our opponents except Georgia and Tennessee (again, for good reason)… and I think we’re better than Tennessee. That said, it’s hard to win them all. Even if you’re a pessimist & you think Tennessee, MS St., and Ole Miss are tossups and Georgia is better than us (no one can argue SC, Mizzou, Vandy, or Louisville is as good as us), and averages work out, then we’re looking at 9-3 on the low end in my opinion. Probably 11-1 on the high end (without really good luck and EVERYTHING going our way & going undefeated).

Really long post to say I’m expecting 10-2.

Auburn was on the list last week. ESPN also had another article that covered coaches on the hot seat and Harsin was on the list. So they either think they are going to win big or that they stink and the coach will get fired....they just aren't sure yet. 🤣

I think that MSU game will be a good one for the cats. Not only revenge but we won't have fumblitis again. Plus we'll hopefully still have wright who, along with a much better tackling secondary, will shut down much of what they want to do.

They'll have to find more offense than an easy -2 yard pass to the rb who runs for 7 yards.

That said, our offense could absolutely still struggle. Their DC is a superstar and I can't wait till he's gone

It’s realistic to expect to get to the Georgia game undefeated. Realistic, even if unlikely.

My instincts tell me we will lose a game before then.

However, the key, even if we lose one, is to avoid the tailspin we have so often seen (even in the Stoops’ era) after losing a game.

Now, what I really want is to be ready for the UGA battle this year.

In 2018, it was almost as if the magnitude of that game caught us off guard.
We snuck out of Missouri with a shocking, come from behind win, only to realize, “we are playing Georgia for the East championship next week!”

This year’s Georgia team is probably better than that one.

Hopefully, we live up to the hype that game and have a “2007 LSU”-type performance.
