and what's wrong with this? Matt and his blog is for everything UK. He and his site support UK in general not just the sports we do well in...and I feel like members of this site should do the same. People on the football board who complain about the basketball coverage should do the same too. If you cheer for UK then cheer for everything UK.

Hopping off the soapbox now.

I know he's the only guy I know in UK History to go over and trash talk the Duke bench...........the one awesome thing he did......Tubby couldn't handle him..plus like about another 50 players....he was awesome in high school

You should have never hopped on the soapbox. It was just noise.

I was only like 10 years old but yall remember how good he was in that Duke game? We should have won that game man. I loved Carruth. He could have been a superstar.

He could have had a long run in the NBA but was just dumb (head case). Such a waste of talent. Hope he got his life straighten out.

That was the epic group that completely turned the tide for recruiting by Tubby...guys like Carruth and Parker drove him nuts, couldn't (or wouldn't) manage the issues so went the safe route with non-elite players for the most part.

the bad part for UK/Tubby was that Daniel Ewing told Tubby that he wanted to commit to UK but had to talk to his parents first
Tubby told him that he had 1 opening for a guard and which ever committed first had the spot
Carruth committed first, Ewing went to Duke and the rest is history

to be fair to Tubby, Carruth was the higher rated recruit by most services

Carruth was a huge part of what, in retrospect, was one of the weirder UK games I can remember, the OT loss to Duke in December of 2001. Duke was the #1 rated defending champ at that time, and UK had started the season with a pathetic loss to Western Ky in which the team scored 52 points (which followed a near loss to the Athletes in Action in an exhibition game).

UK played really, really well against Duke, and it gave people a lot of hope that UK was going to be a legit title contender. Carruth went for 19, Jules Camara went for 10 pts, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks. But that game turned out to be an indication of absolutely nothing. Neither of those 2 ever really had another game anywhere near as good, and UK's season almost completely fell apart, devolving into Team Turmoil.

I've always wondered how much Carruth effected Tubby's recruiting. Tubby never quite recruited at the level you would hope, but it was after that 01-02 season that the slippage started to become catastrophic. Carruth was obviously 100% pure knucklehead, but it's really amazing how many guys, especially Mickey D AA types, Tubby couldn't seem to communicate with. Really, the only top recruit that Tubby signed who got through his UK career without incident was Tayshaun.

It's football season buddy. Football is a big sport in this country, including KY in case you didn't know that. There is not much going on basketball wise right now.

I like BB, but do watch UKFB and some of the big game matchups.Don't fool yourself...MJ's bolg/board was built and it's life blood is UK Basketball....When i see FB coverage there i just skip over it..but that's just me..you do as you wish.

Dude, I was at that game (lived in NYC for years) and the place was jacked up. Lots of Dukies in NJ, of course, and our folks always travel well.

Carruth was basically unstoppable for a stretch but Jay Williams had probably his best overall game as a Blue Devil. 38 points, 25 in the last 11 minutes. That one still stings.

I thought UK had one too. Never wanted to play D which was always a problem for Tubby. Just a knucklehead, through and through. That's why he is in jail. Here's irony for you...football people having been complaining (me included) that MJ is not doing enough football coverage since it is football season and all.
