Could not watch the game live bc had to attend a wedding with sit down dinner (at the Apiary on Jefferson Street, which by the way is one SWEET venue for special occasions), there was no TV, told my friends not to text me re the game I was DVRing it. What I did not count on was the table next to us who did the "C A T S, Cats, Cats, Cats" cheer several times during the night, so I knew we must be doing something right in Columbia ![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
Once I got home, was a hell of a nail biter. First half was some of the best football I have seen by UK in a long damn time. Second half the defense carried the day (for a welcome change)
After the first terrible interception, PT played a hell of a game
Despite the fizzle in the 2nd half, I think I am going to love the Dawson offense. At the end of the game, thought he set up the QB draw on 3rd down perfectly, play was wide open for an easy ten yard run. Great call!! And we ran the clock out for 4 1/2 minutes, like the good teams do. I loved the Jacob Hyde formation at the goal line.
Defense still worries me - to a pretty mediocre team, gave up 400 yards and 200+ rushing. But still, holding any SEC team to 22 points is winning football.
Big key in my mind is how much impact will Hatcher and Flannigan (when/if he plays) make on defense? This team is really lacking a pass rush, and I am hoping Hatcher will provide it
Thought we got [anally assaulted] by the refs most of the night, until the last fumble recovery review, which I was 99% sure was going to get reversed. Thank God. How in the heck did they not call a personal foul on the tackle on Timmons who was 10 yards out of bounds?? Just an unbelievable non call.
Now the other games:
I knew UL's offense would struggle given the situation at QB and their O line is not good. Ran for only 70 yards yesterday. What I am very pleasantly surprised at is how bad their defense has played so far. Really had no answer for Houston, who is a pretty good team, but still, 34 points and 500 yards??
Kentucky's schedule looks a lot more "doable" now than it did two weeks ago, no?
Thought Jax State's coach did a tremendous job yesterday . . . until they recovered the fumble with 3 or 4 minutes left. He had to know his defense was gassed, really had to have a FD, and he ran the tailback dive right up the gut 3 times and punted right back to Auburn. Was bad luck the kid shanked the punt, but still, you have to call plays to make the FD, not just burn the other team's TOs.
Wish I had watched the Mich State v. Oregon game, seemed like it was a terrific battle as well.
Notre Dame pulled another one out of their [backside] but lost their QB along the way. Tough luck two weeks in a row for the Irish.
