If we miss on Bamba, who can see Wenyen bulking up and playing some small ball 5?

Wenyen/Washington/Vandy/Diallo/Quade could be a nasty combo in spurts.

Can't see him posting up and scoring or passing. He couldn't defend the Post straight up either. He's not strong enough to play the 5.

That's a blazing quick lineup that could work in some situations. I just haven't seen anything out of Wenyen that makes me think he could play the 5 effectively. I mean he rebounds pretty well. But he just got repeatedly abused on defense down low.

But with a new year, maybe we get a whole new player.

That's why I said bulk up and small ball. And random. [laughing]

By the way, who was playing the 5 last year when we had a lineup of Wenyen/Willis/Briscoe/Monk/Fox?

Not that we saw it more than a few minutes all year.

Any chance he goes through the T Jones summer workout? Remember what a beast he was coming back as a sophomore?

Not really trying to sell anyone on this, but if Wenyen comes back, I bet we see it at least once.

Although maybe not if we get Bamba. May be tough to keep one of Bamba/Richards off the floor.

But if we miss on Bamba, things get interesting. Postionless basketball and all that...

Bulked up I'd love it for quick small bursts of mins. Maybe not call it 5 position. But if Cal decides to trap as ball crosses half court that would be a long quick line up to Helter skelter it up a little bit for small periods of time

The answer is...

depending on who the match up is. Lets be honest here. If he bulks up, he is 6'9". Theres been other team that has played 6'9" center (this year's UK as well as many other team). But with so many Center on the roster right now, i don't see there would be any opportunity to test the theory.

Coach Cal is more likely to go huge line up with Shai, Diallo, Vanderbilt, Washington and Humphries.

It's just really hard to have any expectations for Wenyen or SKJ given that they showed us absolutely nothing last year. Wenyen the last month just wilted.

Aike,

Actually i take it back. I think you might see it.

Coach Cal will attempt is good old Forward line up.

Shai, Diallo, Vanderbilt, Washington, and Gabriel.

You know Frank Kaminsky showed nothing much sophomore season...and Junior year he exploded...

I think you never know. If you don't play, you really don't know. I think SKJ is way too underrated on here.

If no Bamba and Ban doesn't return Humphries becomes very important.I'm not convinced he (Hump) will be here next year.If he is not then it is Richards and Wynyard at the 5 spot. I would think SKJ would be more suited to the 5 than Gabriel but we have almost no clue what either of them would do there against real competition

We are moving toward the same situation we had with he Murray class, just a different position being in question. It is not nearly as late in the day as it was then but our eggs are being slowly moved in the direction of one basket.

Look at his frame(Gabriel) he is not one that will be likely to bulk up no matter what he does in the off season,he could eat a store full of pop tarts and it ain't happening

I'm not sure he has the frame to bulk up. With his length of he had muscle, he would be a problem.

He has about as much chance of bulking up as I do slimming down...yes it could happen but highly un likely, if we don't have Bam or Bamba we are like a ship without a rudder. We would be competitive but not enough to get to the final night.

Ew. He couldn't even handle the 4. He'll get obliterated at center.
Well I don't completely disagree with you like some. I can see us doing that with Washington a very good rebounder and decent inside player taking the 5 spot. Put an insane long Diallo at the 3 Alexander at the 2 move Vanderbilt to the 4 and Washington to the five some too. Alot of versatility in next year's lineup add Johnson listed as a guard at 6ft7

What position?

Sure. But you can't have any realistic expectations that this will happen.

you said it's hard to have any expectation. Most players usually show many sign after certain experience. Not freshman year.

Also, you really don't know SKJ...it's not like he didn't show potential. Just foul prone, that's all.

I can't recall SKJ logging more than 5 minutes in the 2nd semester. So I don't remember anything he contributed.

Look, I love all of our guys too, but how can we have any expectations for SKJ? And we have seen plenty from Wenyen and it wasn't pretty. I hope they both turn into solid contributors or even better, lottery picks. I just don't know if we should expect anything next year.

If we miss Bamba I highly doubt we can win in the end. Even if Bam comes back. Just not sure we'd have enough.
