Speaking about seeing self-indulgent behavior from players bringing attention to themselves on the field thanks to a lack of discipline, the coach reminded fans bad decisions could result in penalties that could negatively impact their team. He said Alabama has always had a rule where the players don’t talk to the opposing team, with Saban telling players if they want to do that, they can join the debate team. “I’m really sorry for using the Lord’s name in vain,” Saban said. “I just really get hot about what I see in sports that we promote in the media and every other way that really is not a good thing.”

Not going to pretend I know how to coach football as I never played it past the 7th grade. I do know how to instill discipline in players however. I would spend a good amount of practice time on that alone. Other teams may beat us on the field but no team of mine would ever beat themselves, especially with the idiotic personal fouls, taunting, etc. shut your damn mouth and get ready for the next play. It really isn’t that hard. Your players have to respect you and you have to hold your players accountable.

Going to ask a 'dumb' question here because I honestly don't know, but do college programs have referees come in when they're doing full on practices to throw flags for holding/PI/etc.?

I think most teams do but they try to keep the flags in their pockets at all costs

Agree with Saban and something our HC should take heed of along with this...

Agree and something that our HC should heed along with this...
Defense won Nick Saban a ton of national championships, but apparently not any more.

The Alabama football coach said this week, ““I do think the days of playing great defense and winning are probably behind b [in collegeb football].”

I have a lot of respect for Saban because of this practice. I heard one of his star players (D. Smith...I think) talk about this a few years ago.
