IMO, not much if anything at all. The "hybrid" thing was mostly an overreaction by some fans that some players might play in different alignments thus changing the basic defense without changing personnel. It never really did that.

In the 3-4 scheme one of the OLBs frequently plays up on the LOS, but usually in a 2 point stance. However, you could put him down in a 3 point stance and now you have 4 DLs so your 3-4 now "looks" like a 4-3 front. And since one of the OLBs (good player, forgot his name) was moved from safety to OLB there was even further fan speculation that he would drop back into the defensive backfield to give a 5 man secondary look (never happened)

So with 1 OLB able to play on the LOS and the other OLB able to play in the secondary (although he actually never did so) the defensive alignment could theoretically be a 3-4-4, a 4-3-4, a 3-3-5 or a 4-2-5 without making a player substitution. JMO.

Peace
