Which leg was it? Just wondering if he might have done some damage last year in that pile-up where he was at the bottom and was rolling around in pain. If so, it wasn't too bad because he played after that.

He tore his ACL. I guess it's possible that he did some damage to it last year, but it's hard to believe that a high-level athlete would have a partially torn ACL go undiagnosed for over 6 months.

ACL injuries are generally sudden, traumatic events. The wrong movement, the wrong landing, and the ligament tears. The athlete knows something is wrong right away, and yes, it's bad. The surgical technique seems to have improved dramatically the last 20 years (because it used to be career-threatening, and seems much less so now), but you still don't see guys coming back any earlier than 6-8 months.
