One of the looming topics in the world of Kentucky football recently has been the issue of quarterback depth. Since Drew Barker's commitment in the Class of 2014 it's been a wild ride when it comes to quarterback recruiting. You remember Jarrett Stidham and Elijah Sindelar from the Class of 2015. Then there was the Cats' unsuccessful play for Austin Kendall in last year's class. They landed Mac Jones only to see the four-star from Jacksonville flip to Alabama.

Along the way Kentucky did manage to land Gunnar Hoak and Stephen Johnson, but there are only three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster. There is 2018 commitment Jarren Williams, but by the time he arrives Johnson will be gone and Barker will be a redshirt senior. And there's 2017 quarterback Walker Wood, who Gran and Hinshaw apparently liked at Cincinnati.

What's the plan?

It's my understanding that Kentucky will not take another quarterback from the 2018 class. In spite of Kentucky being able to take 28-30 players in the 2018 class, Jarren Williams appears to be "the guy" they're going to want to head into the home stretch with two Signing Days from now.

However ... I can't rule out the possibility of UK taking another 2017 quarterback. I still believe Mac Jones is the first option although I don't have anything new to report on that. But I'm increasingly of the belief that there's a good possibility Kentucky will take a second 2017 quarterback regardless. I can't say that with certainty and I don't have any names I'm confident about besides Jones, but I can say that I believe (only my deduction based on things I've heard) that they might take a second scholarship quarterback between now and Signing Day.
