If you can find someone to share their WatchESPN password and buy a Chromecast, you'll miss almost nothing. Provided your password sharer has all the good stations, you'll have access to every ESPN channel and even web exclusive stuff. You might miss those random Fox Sports South games. The quality is just as good if not better than cable, and I have time Warner 15Mbps connection. WATCHEspn has no limit on the number of screens at once, so share away like a maniac.
Alternatively, SlingTV is $20 + $5 a month for more sports channels. With the $20 package you get ESPN, ESPN 2 and a ton of other channels (AMC, Cartoon Network, Food Network, etc). The $5 more gets you SEC network, ESPNU and a whole lot of other crap. Again, buy a chrome cast and stream it to your TV. I think they have a limit of two streams at once per household
DO NOT WATCH THIS ON A PIDDLY LITTLE COMPUTER SCREEN. BUY A CHROMECAST.
What is a Chromecast, you might ask? Well, it's a little stick that sticks right into the HDMI port on your TV. Then, download a channel's app on your phone (WatchESPN, CBSSports, SlingTV, whatever) and click on the little casting icon in the app. It'll beam that straight to the TV like freakin' magic. It costs $35, you might find one on sale too. Groupon has them for $20 sometimes.
I bought a Roku streaming stick with a new TV, and it never even asked me to log in, WatchESPN just worked.
Bottom line, spend $40 a month on a decent internet connection and you should be golden. I don't know how much cable costs these days but I bet it's more than $65 a month.
