Put Darrin Horn on suicide watch

He doesn't hate Kentucky. Sometimes announcers overcompensate against a team they really like, and it makes it sound like he doesn't like Kentucky.

It would be the same if any of us was calling a Duke game, I thought he did a pretty good job.

Calling that foul on Ulis where he did not even touch the guy a great call told me all I needed to know about that jagoff.

I didn't understand his affirmation that the foul called on Ulis was a good call. He watched the replay twice.
Ulis jumped in the air, but didn't touch the Ole Miss shooter. Horn said that it was absolutely a foul.

I think he liked KY when he was growing up but KY overlooked him and got other coaches. I don't think he likes KY now.

People are going to "root for the underdogs" in our minds in every SEC game this season. Everyone might as well prepare for that narrative, especially in close games. If we extend that 18-5 lead to 50-23 at the half...he would probably have been all over our junk a lot more.

Don't know. I listen to Tom and Mike and Matt on the radio. I have no desire to listen to tv talk.

At no point was Horn showing some anti-UK manner in the game tonight. He has always been highly complimentary of the program and the team on the court. I just think some of you all overanalyze things and need to turn your vitriol on someone when feeling salty. Get over it. The commentary was fine. Stop turning every broadcast crew into a McCarthy style hunt.

He agreed with the Ulis call even when he had to see there was zero contact and agreed on the Harrison lose ball call at the end . Two gosh awful calls , and he praised both of them . What an ass

He was wrong about the foul on Ulis but he has always praised the Kentucky program and been extremely complimentary about us as well. No problem with him at all.

He was reminiscing about his signature SC win... and got caught up in the possibility of Ole Miss pulling it off, too.

But, yeah... agreeing with the Ulis call was terrible.

He should have admitted that he missed the call on Ulis after the replay showed that he was wrong.

I gotta come to Horn's defense and say he was better than a lot of announcers that do color. Anthony Grant, Clark Kellog (UGH), Digger, coach Knight, etc.

It was just as much of a foul as the one the stripes called on Darius Miller as he was guarding Devon Downy when we played Horn's gamecocks in Columbia in 2011 - it was a complete swing-and-a-miss by the official and a dagger in our heart at the end of the game. I was near the action and saw that call up close - no contact whatsoever but that didn't stop him from frantically calling a foul. I still remember that one well.

At least we can forget this one tonight because we won!

Really? Funny way of showing his love. Dude, was like a fat kid in a candy shop when Ole Miss was possibly going to win.

He wasn't anti-UK. He was pro-ref. It didn't matter what the call was or how bad it was, Horn said the same thing "That was a good call." I have never seen an announcer defend the officials like he did last night. Plus, I don't blame him for pumping up Ole Miss. A 22 point dog nearly beats the #1 team in the land on their home floor making 3's all over the place. What do you expect him to do?

Do not think I'm buying the approach that Horn really likes Ky so he openly rooted for ole miss last night . Not buying it .

I thought he did a good job but that kinda irritated me too. The weird thing is he said "Ball don't lie" when Ole Miss missed the first free throw. Why would he say that after saying it was a good call?

I wish more announcers would be like Bilas and call out terrible calls when they happen instead of blindly saying "that's the right call" after every questionable call.

Maybe he made a mistake....occassionally it happens I'm sure

THIS !!!!!!

He's not blind -- you can't view that replay with no contact at all and praise the official " he got it right " . And it wasn't that single comment , the guy openly rooted for ole miss all night . Praised the official on that Harrison loose ball call , which was a terrible terrible awful call .

I thought Horn did a fine job last night, except one line ... "No way he misses 2 here...", after Andrew missed the front end of the 2 free throws that would have given us the lead, with 1 to tie. Coulda done without that juju! Pretty good job though I thought.

Agreed. What would Horn have said if Andrew missed that second free throw after setting it up with "No way he misses this next one, this game will be tied"?

There's not much you can say that doesn't come off as ripping Andrew. "Wow, I can't believe he missed it!"

I usually have no problem with his call, but he was awful last night. Made me almost want Dave Baker.

I'm sorry but I thought he was awful to the point of being insufferably. I don't recall him ever complimenting Kentucky on much of anything, but he frequently complimented Ole Miss. He was constantly bagging on their guards for "initiating contact". I'm sorry, but when the offense jumps in to the defense or flails around, or leans so far over that they are falling over it should be an offensive foul. It should not be bragged on. It's cheap, shitty basketball. He went out of his way to rave about calls that were often suspect, sometimes just completely wrong. See the Ullis call as an example.

So basically, he found time to brag about anyone and everything he could, except us. He had an axe to grind. Just because some didn't see it, doesn't mean everyone else was oblivious.

Not sure what his views on the UK program are today, but he grew up a UK fan...his older brother Greg even lived with the team in Wildcat Lodge in the 80's. Given that Cal has included him in his Fantasy Camp, etc., I would imagine his view of the program is still pretty positive.

I was at the game, so didn't hear his commentary, but I would guess that he perhaps was overcompensating to avoid giving off the impression of being a homer. I used to always feel that way about Larry Connely when he would do our games, too.

Whoa! Get a grip ktbug! Lol!

I swear He and the refs were on the take last night. He literally got everything he said wrong . When he said Ball dont lie i said to the tv - no but you do.

Darrin was not against uk last night and he did a good job with everything except agreeing with refs every call they made. I'll take him every game.

Jimmy Dykes going nuts over our "violent cuts" is one of the best things I've heard said regarding basketball in a long time.
