Probably stupid idea but…Ask Pitino to be executive head coach with Pope for two years?

If we wanted Pitino we should have asked him instead of Pope. Now? Not gonna happen.

It's beyond the level of logical thinking.
Are you serious?
Seriously.
You really think that is an......nevermind.

I’m think the hiring of Pope is awesome and the best choice. I think Pitino’s age wouldn’t have made him a better hire. I’m just saying kind of like in a fantasy world, could he be brought bake to Camelot to assist one of his former players to bring us back to the absolute top. I don’t really consider this a real option so just play along.

I would’ve gladly taken Pitino last year but knew with his age and history that Mitch would never.

Is what it is. Sucks.

But to your question, coaches have giant egos. They don’t do stuff like what you suggested.

Hadn’t noticed. Thanks for the update. Oops, I actually did notice and it’s mentioned in the thread title.
bro. I was trying to answer your very silly question without being smart or disrespectful and then you respond with that. Pope is the coach. You can’t just usurp the role and authority of your coach by bringing someone in over them like that. Think Pope would be happy with that?

There's no world where Pitino wouldn't have been the better hire. Stop lying to yourself.

If Pitino wanted to "help out" after retiring as head coach, wouldn't he most likely help his son vs UK?

When he decides to give it up at St. John’s, I could see him taking on some kind of role with Pope here at UK. He has done a lot to try to mend fences here and I think he would love to finally retire as a Wildcat so that he can ride off into the sunset as a hero in the bluegrass. His biggest regret was leaving here and I think he hated being hated here while he was at UofL. He has done a lot to try to rectify that and coming back to the university and helping a former player would be very appealing to him, I would think.

The only way that could have ever worked is if UK hired Pitino last year and then he added Pope to the staff as the Associate Head Coach (Meaning Pope gives up a Big 12 head coaching gig to be an assistant coach, fairly unlikely but I guess anything is possible). Then, the administration could have named Pope Head-Coach-in-Waiting. But, that path was not chosen, and that's ok, as both guys have done very well for themselves and their schools this season.

With Rick and Pope being so close, we basically have Rick as a free consultant. It doesn't have to be in an official capacity or having two head coaches on the bench. The situation is a win win for Kentucky as it currently is.

Pitino is at home with St John’s. He is a northeast guy and don’t ever see him coming back or retiring in KY.
