Prime = 65

Colorado’s class is ranked 65th. Not gonna be as easy as he thought. Losing 7/8 is a reality check.
I have no clue whether Sanders can turn them into a winner, but it seems clear to me that their class ranking is low because they are focusing heavily on transfers. Look at how few HS recruits Colorado is taking compared to the number of transfers they have coming in.

If you look at 247sports’ overall ranking, which combines HS recruits and transfers, Colorado’s incoming class is ranked 21st.

Again, I have no idea if this will translate into wins, but Colorado looks to be trying to build a winner largely through transfers.

That may be true because they only have 8 high school commits. The average star ranking is pretty high at 3.63

By avg star ranking, they would be tied for 14th nationally.

I like his approach. If I were the HC at a school like Colorado, I would focus on the portal too. Deion will get 5-10 blue chip HS recruits a year so I would take those and maybe a few high 3 stars. Then fill the rest with proven college players. No need to take marginal HS recruits who need a lot of development anymore as they most likely will not stick around 4 years to develop anyway.

The only issue I see with being so committed to the portal is chemistry, particularly with the o-line and receivers. Not much of a problem with multi-year guys but would definitely be an issue with those who only have a year remaining imo. Same with a QB, think a lot of our issues outside of drops was Leary’s lack of knowledge with our receivers and the nuance of their routes. That’s why I feel Stoops is doing a good job of balancing the portal with hs recruits who have a high upside.

Sanders is a joke. 4 years from now Colorado will be looking for a new Coach and Prime will be watching games on TV.

IIRC, most of his HS recruits (and a good portion of the transfers) are skill position players. They were flat awful on both OL and DL this past year and I don't see much in this class that addresses that huge problem. You can only win so many games with 4* QBs, RBs, WRs and CBs.

He got like 7 O linemen from the portal, who knows if he can find 5 to play as a decent unit. Had a commitment from a 5 star O tackle but sounds like all the powe schools are emptying the NIL buckets to flip him.

Totally understand anyone annoyed and cheering against Prime. I watch CFB to be entertained, he def does that, I'll be watching Colorado again in 2024. He will have a much easier Big 12 sched to bang against.

Looks to me like they focused quite a bit on trying to improve their lines.

Half of their incoming HS recruits and transfers are OL or DL.

He did bring in 2 backup quarterbacks to hold clipboards while his son plays.

Next season is very important for Colorado. If they could win 7-8 games and show progress then Deion might do alright. If they have another losing season then I think it’s not gonna work out.

If they win 7+ games, I think Prime will move on as bigger, more prominent programs come calling. His son and Hunter, clearly their 2 best players, will graduate and go to the NFL. He doesn't seem to be building a program for the long term. More like building his resume on a year-by-year basis to get the next big job.

If they win 6 or miss a bowl game again, the number of suitors will almost assuredly drop precipitously. However, he might be willing to be an assistant in the NFL, which is a step towards what I think is his ultimate goal: HC in the NFL (or at an elite college program).

Ironically the PAC was strong in its last relevant year. It had 4-5 of the best QBs in the country. Coaching talent was deep too. Just when you got out of the top tier guys who are rising super stars, and think you caught a break, oh it's only Chip Kelly, the guy who only put Oregon on the map and saved the P12 in a post USC dominant vacuum, dominated and changed the college game. Then you have the Utah guy who's always been very well thought of across the country.

Buffs are moving into a generally lack luster B12, that doesn't have the coaching nor QB talent and depth...and that was with Sooner and horns. I think Pac was probably stronger overall in defense too.

The top two now are Kansas St and Ok St. Those two aren't set in stone like Horns and Sooners were. So, there's a power vacuum in that conference and it's basically anyone's game. We could very easily see Prime battling it out with Neal Brown to kind of get up there and nip at the heels of those two programs.

Both of those two could end up in the new playoffs before CMS.

UL is taking this approach as well. 21 and 17 transfers the last two years. Many seem to disagree but I see that as a Ponzi scheme. In 4 years you will be dependent on bringing in 25 transfers to start every other year. Quick pick me up, but not sustainable.

At the last minute of signing day/week Colorado secured 5* o line tackle Jordan Seton. Despite every top 10 program in the nation making a run at him the last 3 days offering God knows how much NIL. I bet this kid is one of the top earners in all CFB in 2024.

Protecting the blind side is an important investment!!!
