Remember when the SEC hired four new head football coaches after the 2012 season? Remember the consensus that Gus Malzahn was easily the star of a class that also included Bret Bielema, Butch Jones and Mark Stoops?

Did we speak too soon?

Check back in 17 days after Auburn visits Kentucky for what should be a Midnight Madness-like Thursday night in Lexington.

Win there, and Stoops could take one more step in his journey to become the tortoise to Malzahn's hare....

Good read. While I think Stoops is doing a great job this year and I think we are a little ahead of schedule, I think next year is when we make some real noise. GBB BBN

"Meanwhile, Stoops - the football coach at the basketball school - is the only member of the SEC coaching class of 2013 trending in the right direction."

Ouch. Even in our successes, basketball manages to bring our enthusiasm back down to earth. I have yet to read a positive article about Kentucky football or Stoops in the past few weeks that doesn't mention our basketball team. Hopefully the mention of basketball will get less and less as we have more success, because it does our program zero favors to constantly be overshadowed in the eyes of SEC and national writers.

Also nice is if you click on the "what we learned from the missouri game" link ... #3 is that "Towles is one of the top 5 QB's in the SEC".

I agree. I'm most excited for two years from now. I think we could see an 8-9 win season
We have a very good shot at 8 wins this year. We are better than Auburn Louisville Charlotte eku and vandy. Win those you got 8 wins. So not sure why you think we may win 8 2 or 3 years from now.

From continued high level recruiting and player development.
Would love to win 10 this year. But two years from now with our best players as seniors and rs seniors will be scary

IsnAuburn going to fire yet another coach and bring in some "no name" coordinator that knows "the system"?

Auburn is so typical. They give their coaches every cheating chance. One bad season they're ready for a change. The most ridiculous cheating school in the country is auburn.

Stoops is going to set the bar high here, that's evident already. Once he gets this thing going, 8 wins is going to be an average year for us. We'll have some 6 or 7 win seasons but we'll also have some 9 and 10 win seasons if he is here say 10 years. Truly feel like we got the perfect coach for this program. He is exactly what we needed. Malzahn is a really good coach, but I'm not sure any other coach could do what Stoops is doing now. We needed a coach to come in and set the blueprint on how you win at Kentucky and he's showing you how to do it.

Starts and ends with recruiting.

I agree with ya tho.

Absolutely and that's why I said he is setting the blueprint for how to win at UK. You have to be able to recruit Ohio, it's now there in black & white. No future coach should be hired that cannot recruit in Ohio or doesn't plan to make it a priority. That would be a huge red flag to me. I know people harped on this for YEARS, and they were right. The inroads we are making there are going to pay huge dividends for years, provided we don't mess it up.

Yup. I've always believed Ohio is paramount for both sports. If you cannot recruit a hot bed state that's in your backyard, why are you even coaching here?
