Practice Report 8 19 2023

Does that mean our OL is not performing well? I hope not.
No they (meaning Stoops and Wallace) said the OLine is a bunch better but still is working on things. Stoops said he was very happy with both sides of the ball. Wallace said defense and Kattus said offense won the scrimmage. Both said Big Deion Walker is just in a different level of play.

Does that mean our OL is not performing well? I hope not.
Oh, come on. Did our former OLs handle Josh Allen in practice? Deone Walker has played one season at UK and is already about to become an All American. The preseason all conference team doesn't quite reflect that level of excellence for Walker yet because they stuffed it with AL and GA players like they always do. And I get that. Doesn't surprise or anger me at all. AL and GA have huge fan bases and have earned their football recognition on the field. But don't be surprised if Walker turns out to be the best interior defensive lineman in the SEC this year. Walker's combination of power and quickness is unbelievable. In this case, Stoops is complimenting Walker. He isn't exactly predicting a Joe Moore Award for his OL, but that is just Stoops trying to motivate them after a 2022 season of underperformance. I think we all know our 2023 OL will be significantly improved, even if not one of Stoops' all time best. The main reason, though not the only one, for improvement is that our 2023 OTs are better. I am not saying they are All Americans. I am just saying there will be better protection and a large reduction in sacks. That doesn't mean these guys can handle Walker and a healthy, larger, stronger JJ Weaver every day in practice. But I believe we are about to find that our opponents can't handle them either. This is another outstanding Brad White defense.

Stoops reported that True Freshman: Ty Bryant has worked his way into the safety 2 deep rotation and will be big on special teams. Said he has put in some work.
We have some impressive depth and talent at Safety, much of it home grown in Kentucky.

Bryant and Gadson should have been rated higher. Stoops finds players like this and wins with them. He did not have to look hard to find Bryant.
I agree, I loved the film provided on Gadson, think he has a bright future as well as Gilbert. Bryant, IMO, was a steal that should have been rated higher right in our backyard with a exceptional football IQ.
