I read on here constantly where Poythress is a real athlete but he doesn't move his feet well, has no quickness, cant shoot, lazy,ETC. None of that can be true. either he is or he isn't. Your thoughts please.

Not a great basketball player due to inconsistency. Make no mistake about it though, to say he's not athletic is a very asinine thing to say.

He would be hell at track and field. I have come to be very disappointed after years of supporting him. Athletic but no hands

He's an explosive leaper. Elite in this area when he has a running start.

Leaping from a standstill? Abov. average.

Speed? Average.

Quickness? Above average side to side. Average in short areas.

He's a good athlete overall. Where he;s elite is when he's running towards the rim & explodes off the hardwood.

Agree with all of this except the leaping from a standstill. I think since the injury he is about average on that. In fact he gets his shot blocked some under the basket. He doesn't get the lift like he used to from a standing position. No doubt when he runs at the basket he can still get up.

Poythress has very good leaping ability, not what it was before the knee injury though. In all other aspects of athleticism he seems mediocre to me.

You're right. Im just assuming he'll go back to being above average there when he's a year away from the injury.

His athleticism can't be questioned. Now his physicality, will, and actual basketball skill is what you worry about with Poy. The dude has the athleticism to dominate any game he plays in.

name the athletic attributes he has that any other of our guys don't have. you always appear VERY asinine but I wouldn't have called you out like that. its called breeding or lack thereof

Hell, moe did you not read all of the responses? He is a great leaper, obviously a strong kid.

Watching a kid stand under a basket will not offer you any great insight.

No one on here knows his shuttle runs, speed ladder, or any other agility and quickness drills.

It is asinine for so many of our geniuses to think they do.

I played with two guys that could jump out of the gym but couldn't control the landing. It is like being catapulted at a speed and height that is hard to recover any type of control while landing. Its especially bad when it happens in a crowd or at an extreme angle on the run...simply hard to control the forces created. Both guys would have 10 rebounds nobody else on the court could touch, but 8 turnovers because of crash landings and stumbles. Love Alex though. Great guy who I hope gets to live out whatever dreams he has.

I don't see the same explosiveness in him but as I've said several times, he is only 12 months post op. I doubt if he is 100% and he may never make it back to 100%.

Poythress has elite athleticism but is not necessarily a great athlete. Being a great athlete means you utilize all, or most, of the athletic ability at your disposal to perform at the highest level. Poythress does not consistently do this. Plus he has poor anticipation and reactive skills which diminishes the athletic advantage he has on opposing players.

This thread is so dumb. Poythress has issues but athleticism is not even close to being an issue. He's one of the most athletic players on the team.

I think your getting skill mixed up with athleticsm. He has very little skill but nice athleticsm. Same thing with Lee who has next to no skill what so ever.
